Engine oil CAUTION: • Engine oil is a major factor affecting engine performance and service life. • Be sure to check the engine on a level surface with the engine stopped. NOTE: The Oil Alert system will automatically stop the engine before the oil level falls below the safe limit.
Fuel Fuel tank capacity: 26 lit. (5.7 Imp.gal) Check the fuel gauge. Refill the tank to the upper level if necessary. Do not fill the fuel tank above the upper level mark. Use diesel fuel. Do not use fouled or mixed diesel fuel. Avoid getting dirt, dust or water in the fuel tank.
Page 16
NOTE: • According to season and ambient temperature, a different grade of diesel fuel should be used. The fuel might freeze and prevent the engine from starting if summer fuel is used in winter. If winter fuel is used in summer, it could result in a lack of power.
Air cleaner Check that the air cleaner elements are clean and in good condition. Clean or replace the elements if necessary (page 28). If you operate the generator in very dusty areas, clean the elements more often than shown in the MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE (page 25).

6. GENERATOR USE Connections to a Building’s Electrical System If the generator will be used as an alternative to utility company power, an isolation switch must be installed to disconnect the utility lines from the building when the generator is connected. Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician and must comply with all applicable laws and electrical codes.
Page 24
CAUTION: • Limit operation requiring maximum power (See page 40) to 30 minutes. For continuous operation, do not exceed the rated power (See page 40). In either case, the total wattage of all appliances connected must be considered. • Most appliance motors require more than their rated wattage for startup. •...

Oil Alert System The oil alert system, will automatically stop the engine to prevent damage from lack of lubrication. If this occurs, check the engine oil level, and add oil if the level is low (page 10). The oil alert system is equipped with an automatic engine stop system which protects the electrical components of the generator when the battery is removed while in operation.
If the engine must be run for any reason, be sure the area is well-ventilated. To avoid serious burns, let the engine cool before performing maintenance. Use only genuine Honda parts or their equivalent for maintenance and repair. Parts of lower quality may damage the engine.
(2) These items should be serviced by your servicing dealer, unless you have the proper tools and are mechanically proficient. Refer to the Honda shop manual for service procedures. (3) For commercial use, log hours of operation to determine proper maintenance intervals.
Engine oil change Drain the oil while the engine is warm to assure rapid and complete draining. 1. Open the maintenance cover. 2. Remove the oil filler cap and drain plug to drain the oil. 3. Install the drain plug and tighten it securely. 4.
Engine oil filter service Clogged or restricted oil filter can cause serious engine damage. Oil filter servicing is related to the quality of oil used, and the severity of service. It is recommended that the filter be checked and serviced at intervals, or oftener if necessary, indicated immediately below.
Air cleaner service If you operate the generator in very dusty areas, clean or replace the air cleaner more often than specified in the MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. CAUTION: Operating the engine without the air cleaner will cause rapid engine wear. 1. Open the maintenance cover. 2.
If rapid loss of electrolyte is experienced, or if your battery seems to be weak, causing slow starting or other electrical problems, see your authorized Honda dealer. Open the maintenance cover and check the electrolyte level in each battery cell.
