Plug-Out Detection - The model 3722 EVSE is equipped with a Plug Out Detection circuit that identifies when the connector is attached to the electric vehicle. This allows the EVSE to immediately remove electric power from the electric vehicle before the connector is totally removed from the vehicle inlet.

    Site Preparation The Model 3722 (Figure 2) is a single EVSE unit designed to be mounted to a garage ceiling in a horizontal position. Power must be located at the charging location and supplied by an individual, dedicated 40A non-GFCI circuit breaker at the breaker panel.

    Site Selection The Model 3722 was designed to be mounted to the ceiling and should be positioned, if possible, so that when the J1772 power connector is lowered, it will be close to the power inlet on the electric vehicle. This location is recommended because the cable, when extended, has a 20 ft.

    While installers should be knowledgeable about all aspects of the requirement, several critical paragraphs and illustrative figures (Fig. 5A-5E) are referenced below to assist with locating the EVSE to meet reach and obstruction requirements of the Act. When properly located relative to the curb, the Model 3722 is compliant with all aspects of the following ADA paragraphs.

    Recommended Mounting Method Refer to the following table for a list of parts needed for installation that are not supplied as part of the EVSE unit. These parts may be purchased at any reputable building supply store. Ensure that all parts meet or exceed local building codes for quality.
  • Page 20: Mounting The Unistruts To The Ceiling

    The mounting of the two Unistrut sections must be secured to a solid structure (such as the ceiling joists) using appropriate fasteners and must be level. Do not use hollow wall anchors. The EVSE unit weighs 42 lbs. (plus the Unistruts and attaching hardware). Serious injury or death can result if the EVSE unit falls onto personnel during installation or operation.

    4. Reinstall the four screws removed earlier to lock the 3722 main assembly plate to the ceiling mounting plate (Figure 8A). Note: If this EVSE uses a serial-connected Payment/Gateway Module or wired switch to initiate charging sessions, see those installation guides for wiring instructions.

    Wiring for Power 1. After installing conduit between the breaker panel and the EVSE, pull through the AC wiring. Be sure to use stranded copper wires. Note: The Power Disconnect Switch and Ground Bar can accommodate wires from 4-10 AWG.

    Replacing the Cover Replacing the cover involves the same steps, in opposite order, as removing the cover.     Switch 2 is not currently used and is reserved for future applications. Switch 3 puts the EVSE into Test Mode for connecting to a Payment Module via a ZigBee network. See the 3725-UG-002 Payment Module User Guide for information about adding the 3722 to the network. OFF = Not in Test Mode; ON = In Test Mode Switch 4 provides an interface for Controller Access Security Systems (CASS).

    The following operation assumes all steps with a Payment Module have been completed to initiate the EVSE for a charging session. If your EVSE does not use a Payment Module, you will need to either push the ON button on the wall switch (Figure 1) or the Remote FOB to release the cable to initiate a charging session.

    Testing and Fault Modes With the communications required between the EVSE and the Electric Vehicle, it is recommended that the installer use a Control Module Inc. Model 3840-001 hand-held Electrician tester. This will thoroughly check out the EVSE, before using an Electric Vehicle.
