Connecting Your Keyboard
You can power the keyboard either via a powered USB port or a third-party power supply. Use a
USB cable to power MPK Road 88 when connecting to a computer to trigger software synths. It is
recommended that you connect MPK Road 88 to an onboard USB port or to a powered USB hub.
Software Installation
To download and install the editor software:
1.
Go to akaipro.com and register your product. If you don't have an Akai Professional account
yet, you will be prompted to create one.
2.
In your Akai Professional account, follow the download instructions in your User Account.
3.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Features
Top Panel
1.
Keyboard: Play these keys to send MIDI note data to
your computer or external MIDI device.
2.
Pitch Wheel: The pitch bend wheel is primarily used to
bend the notes played on the keyboard up or down.
This allows you to play phrases not normally
associated with keyboard playing, such as guitar-style
riffs. Your sound source determines how far you can
bend the note.
3.
Mod Wheel: The modulation wheel is typically used to
add variation for the sound you are playing. This type
of real-time controller was originally introduced on
electronic keyboard instruments to give the performer
options such as adding vibrato, just like players of
acoustic instruments do.
4.
Volume Knob: Adjust this knob to control volume for
Main output, Aux output, and the Headphone output.
5.
Transpose/Set: Press and hold this button along with
a keyboard key to set the the transpose range for the
keyboard. Press and release this button to turn the
transpose
function

Split A/B/Set: Press and hold this button along with a
keyboard key to divide the keyboard into two ranges.
For example, have the right hand section trigger a
piano and have the left hand section trigger a bass.
Press and release this button to turn the split function
on/off. See

7.
Setup A/Edit: Press this button to activate the
controller's performance parameters. Press and hold
this button, along with keys on the keyboard to edit
these parameters: MIDI channel 1-16 (A0-B2), pitch wheel on/off (A#0), mod wheel on/off (C#1),
pedal 1-3 on/off (D#1-G#1), MIDI port on/off (A#1), USB port (C#2). Hold Edit and press the A#7
key repeatedly to cycle through the different levels for the LED dimming settings.
Note: If the Setup button is held along with the other Setup button, both Setup buttons will
function simultaneously.
