Submersible sump pump

Before installation, check your local electrical and
plumbing codes.
Preparing the Sump Pit
Locate the sump approximately 6" from the basement wall in the
lowest point of the basement floor. The sump pit shall no be less that
14 inches diameter and 24 inches deep (Note: pump will operate
more efficiently in an 18" diameter sump). The pit bottom shall be
solid and provide permanent support for the pump.
Electrical Power Supply
The outlet required for this pump is a separate 15 amp circuit of 115
volts, AC 60Hz, with a proper fused switch in the line. This must be
located within 8 feet of the pump. The ground terminal on the plug is
provided for your protection.
Fitting the Discharge Pipe
1. Sump pumps can be piped to discharge into the house drainage
system or to a storm drain depending on local plumbing code. Do
not connect the sump pump discharge to the sewage system.
2. The discharge piping should be as short as possible, with a
minimum number of turns, to reduce pipe friction losses.
3. It is recommended that the discharge pipe diameter be equal or
large than the discharge size of the pump.
4. Always install a union in the discharge line just above the sump
pit to allow easy removal of the pump for cleaning or repair.
5. Use of a check valve is recommended to prevent backflow of water
into the sump. A relief hole (1/8" or 3/16" diameter) should be
drilled in the discharge pipe (Be sure the hole is below the water).
Setting the Sump Pump
1. Clean any debris from the pit and set the sump pump in place.
2. Locate the pump in the pit so that the pump housing and the float
control will not come in contact with the side of the pit.
3. Do not allow the cord to interfrer with the float control motion or
to over the motor housing. The cord should be taped to the pump
discharge piping with electricians tape.
4. Adjust the free length of cable by sliding it in the slot on the
handle. (Note: the free length must be at least 4" ). Longer free
length allow a larger pumping range.
Before removing the pump be sure to disconnect the
unit from electrical power.
Every three or four months:
Clean the pump inlet opening. Pour enough water into the sump to
cycle the pump and assure its proper functioning.

Operational Check:
1. After the discharge piping is complete and the sump cleaned,
connect the pump cord to the electrical outlet and run water into
the sump to test the pump. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPERATE
THE PUMP WITHOUT WATER. SEALS AND BEARINGS
COULD BE DAMAGED IF THE PUMP WERE RUN DRY.
2. Fill the sump with water to the normal turn-on level and allow the
pump to remove the water to the normal turn-off point.
3. Install a sump cover.

● Annually
1. Check the power cords and outlet for damage or corrosion.
2. Remove and clean the pump. Clean the sump pit also.
3. Manually fill the sump to check for correct switch adjustment and
pump operation.
