Description
The microphone has the intended purpose of con-
verting acoustic signals into electrical signals.
The U 67 condenser microphone is a re-edition
of the legendary U 67 vacuum-tube microphone
which was produced from 1960 to 1971.
It has the original circuitry with the EF 86 pento-
de and the BV 12 transformer.
The re-edition was made possible by the fact that
all critical components could be used in original
form:
The K 870/67 capsule, a pressure-gradient dual-
diaphragm transducer with two gold-vaporized
membrane foils, the EF 86 vacuum tube, which
needs to be carefully selected for use in a studio
microphone, and the BV 12 transformer, which
was wound to the original specifications, using
still available materials.
The U 67 microphone is delivered as a set in a
transport case, containing the U 67 microphone,
the Z 48 elastic suspension, the UC 5 microphone
cable, and the NU 67 V power supply unit. Further,
three mains cables are included, with EU, UK and
US mains connectors.
The U 67 is a switchable large diaphragm studio
microphone with the polar patterns omni-direc-
tional, cardioid, and figure-8.
The input stage is a vacuum tube (valve) with the
sound properties unique to this type of device.
The microphone has a transformer-balanced out-
put and is powered by the NU 67 V power supply
unit.
The front of the microphone is designated by the
Neumann logo.
By means of two further slide switches on the cap-
sule head, sound components below 200 Hz can
be attenuated, or the overall level can be reduced
by 10 dB.
At the lower limit frequency of 30 Hz, a fixed high-
pass takes effect in order to fade out very low fre-
quency interferences.
