SuperCore™ Biopsy Instrument
DEVICE DESCRIPTION: The SuperCore™ Biopsy Instrument is a semi-automatic biopsy
instrument used to obtain soft tissue biopsies. It is composed of an echogenic spring loaded
biopsy needle fitted into a plastic handle permitting single handed specimen collection. The
position of the needle may be visualized by x-ray, CT or ultrasound. The needle has
numerically ordered centimeter markings to facilitate precise depth placement. The
adjustable instrument allows for a throw of 1.2cm or 2.2cm exposing the specimen notch
either 19mm or 9.5mm, providing clinical flexibility.
INDICATIONS FOR USE: Disposable guillotine soft tissue instrument for obtaining percutaneous
or surgical histological samples, (e.g. lung, liver, spleen, kidney, prostate, lymph nodes, breast,
thyroid, and pancreas).
CONTRAINDICATIONS: These needles should be used by a physician familiar with the possible
side effects, typical findings, limitations, indications and contraindications of soft tissue biopsy.
Physician judgment is required when considering biopsy on patients with bleeding disorder, or
receiving anti-coagulant medications.
PRECAUTIONS: This device was designed, tested and manufactured for single use only.
Reuse or reprocessing has not been evaluated and may lead to its failure and subsequent
patient illness, infection or other injury. Do not reuse, reprocess or re-sterilize this device.
Handle in a manner that will prevent accidental puncture. This instrument can be used with
an appropriate Argon Co-Axial Introducer Needle. Other manufacturer's co-axial introducer
needles have not been tested for compatibility with the SuperCore™ Biopsy Instrument.
WARNINGS: These instructions are NOT meant to define or suggest any medical or surgical
technique. The individual practitioner is responsible for the proper procedure and techniques to be
used with this device.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
1. Optional use of co-axial introducer needle with biopsy instrument: Advance the co-axial
introducer needle, using standard technique, to a position proximal to the lesion. Position
the adjustable needle stop proximal to the skin. Remove the stylet from the co-axial
introducer needle, leaving the cannula in position.
2. Cock the SuperCore™ biopsy instrument by pulling back on the plunger until a firm click is felt
at either the 1.2 or 2.2cm position. (User selectable.)
3. With stylet fully retracted (specimen notch completely covered by cannula as in fig. 2, insert
needle percutaneously or through the co-axial introducer needle proximal to area to be
sampled. Warning: Be careful not to press plunger until needle is inserted to desired location.
Verify proper location of needle.
4. Move plunger with thumb to first stop to advance stylet exposing specimen notch (1.2 or
2.2cm). Move needle back and forth a few mm to fill specimen notch. Press plunger past stop
with thumb, automatically triggering the cannula to close, trapping the specimen in the sample
notch.
5. Draw needle out. Pull back plunger to 1.2 or 2.2cm position, recharging the spring. Push
plunger to first stop exposing the specimen notch. Remove tissue specimen from notch in
stylet. Be careful not to push plunger past first stop during this step.
Disposal: After use, this product may be a potential biohazard. Dispose in accordance with
applicable laws and regulations.
Storage: Store at standard ambient temperature.

Instrumento de Biopsia SuperCore™
DESCRIPCIÓN DEL DISPOSITIVO: El instrumento para biopsia SuperCore™ es
semiautomático y se utiliza para obtener biopsias de tejidos blandos. Está compuesto por
una aguja ecogénica para biopsia accionada por muelle e insertada en un mango de plástico
que permite obtener las muestras usando una sola mano. La posición de la aguja puede
visualizarse mediante radiografía, tomografía o ecografía. La aguja viene con marcas de
centímetro ordenadas numéricamente para facilitar la ubicación a la profundidad precisa. El
instrumento ajustable permite un recorrido de 1,2 cm o 2,2 cm, lo que expone la escotadura
para la muestra 19 mm o 9,5 mm, con la consiguiente flexibilidad clínica.
INDICACIONES DE USO: Este instrumento desechable de tipo guillotina para tejidos
blandos está indicado para obtener muestras histológicas por vía percutánea o quirúrgica
(por ejemplo, de pulmón, hígado, bazo, riñón, próstata, ganglios linfáticos, mama, tiroides y
páncreas).
CONTRAINDICACIONES: Estas agujas deben ser utilizadas solamente por un médico
familiarizado con los posibles efectos secundarios, los hallazgos típicos, las limitaciones,
indicaciones y contraindicaciones de la biopsia de tejidos blandos. La realización de biopsias
en pacientes con trastornos hemorrágicos o que están recibiendo medicamentos
anticoagulantes queda a criterio del médico.
PRECAUCIONES: Este dispositivo ha sido diseñado, probado y fabricado para un solo uso.
No se ha evaluado su reutilización ni reprocesamiento, y es posible que estos causen un
fallo del dispositivo y una consiguiente enfermedad, infección o lesión al paciente. No vuelva
a utilizar, procesar ni esterilizar el dispositivo. Manipúlelo de manera tal de evitar las
punciones accidentales. Este instrumento puede usarse con una aguja introductora coaxial
Argon apropiada. No se han probado agujas introductoras coaxiales de otros fabricantes
para determinar su compatibilidad con el instrumento para biopsia SuperCore™.
ADVERTENCIAS: Estas instrucciones NO tienen como objeto definir ni sugerir ninguna
técnica médica o quirúrgica. El profesional médico es el responsable de emplear las técnicas
y procedimientos adecuados para este dispositivo.
INSTRUCCIONES DE USO:
1. Uso optativo de una aguja introductora coaxial con el instrumento para biopsia: haga avanzar
la aguja introductora coaxial mediante la técnica estándar, hasta una posición próxima a la
lesión. Ubique el tope ajustable de la aguja próximo a la piel. Retire el estilete de la aguja
introductora coaxial, dejando la cánula en posición.
2. Prepare el instrumento para biopsias SuperCore™ tirando del émbolo hasta que se oiga un
clic rotundo en la posición de 1,2 o de 2,2 cm (a elección del usuario).
3. Con el estilete completamente retraído (la escotadura para la muestra totalmente cubierta por
la cánula, como se muestra en la figura 2), inserte la aguja a través de la piel o de la aguja
introductora coaxial hasta cerca del área donde se obtendrá la muestra. Advertencia: tenga
cuidado de no oprimir el émbolo hasta que la aguja esté insertada en el lugar deseado.
Verifique que la aguja esté ubicada correctamente.
