do not require special traffic balancing for two rea-
sons. First, each analog adapter provides dedicated
DTMF receivers and ringing generators. Second, the
system has a non-blocking digital intercom bus.

• The feature Automatic Line Selection changes
to "NULL" automatically if an analog adapter
is connected to a port that previously had a
keyset with Auto Line Selection programmed
connected.

1.4 Attendant

DATABASE PROGRAMMING - 4. RESOURCE - ATTENDANT
The system provides for a primary attendant to
answer all incoming line calls and to support neces-
sary functions such as line recall. A second, alternate
attendant may be established for common sharing of
incoming CO calls or for load sharing during peak
traffic periods. A keyset with display is needed at the
attendant position. Only the attendant and alternate
attendant are allowed to manually control Night
Switching from the keyset.

1.5 Background Music

DATABASE PROGRAMMING - NONE
FUNCTION 52
When a station is not in use (i.e. on-hook), users can
enjoy music through speaker by pressing a specific
function code or programming a feature key. The
function code or feature key acts as toggle turning
the music on and off.
When keyset goes off hook, the music stops play-
ing, and resumes playing after the keyset goes on-
hook.

1.6 Barge In

DATABASE PROGRAMMING - 3. CALL HANDLING - INTRUSION
FUNCTION 72
Protegé ® 616 allows station users the ability to inter-
rupt a line call between another station user and an
outside party. To intrude on a call, the station user
has to be of an equal or higher Class of Service and
intrusion must be enabled system wide through
database programming.
N
OTES
• If the alert tone is enabled, the extension
receiving the intercom call will hear an alert
when the Barge In occurs.
• Once the Barge In occurs the callers are on a
conference call.
• Only one Barge In can occur at a time.
• A caller cannot use the Barge In function if
already on a call.
4-2
• If the Barge In is unsuccessful, then the Busi-
ness sets will hear the error tone.
• Barge In cannot be completed onto conference
calls.
• Barge In calls cannot be placed on Hold.
• Barge In calls will be released when caller
presses the ICM, outside line, feature or func-
tion keys.
• Barge In should not be enabled when Call
Waiting is enabled.
• An extension that receives a Barge In call can-
not reply to Call Waiting. If the extension that
performed the Barge In replies to Call Waiting,
the system releases the Barge In automatically.

1.7 Battery Back Up

DATABASE PROGRAMMING - NONE
In case of a power outage the system provides data-
base back up and protection through a Nickel-Cad-
mium battery.

1.8 Calling Party Identification

DATABASE PROGRAMMING - 4. RESOURCE - USER NAMES
An internal caller's extension number and pro-
grammed name appears on display keysets. A pro-
grammed user name and extension number replaces
the date and time on most message displays.

1.9 Call Operator (Call Attendant)

DATABASE PROGRAMMING - 3. CALL HANDLING - OPERATOR
CODE
The Call Operator feature allows extension users to
place an intercom call to the designated attendant by
dialing the digit '0' or '9' instead of dialing the
attendant's extension number.
The operator code is programmable in database
programming.
N
OTES
• Since the access code for the Operator and an
outgoing line can be customized, the Protegé®
616 system follows this operation:
If the operator code is "0" (default)
Dialing ICM + 0 calls the Operator
Dialing ICM + 9 seizes an available line
If the operator code is "9"
Dialing ICM + 9 calls the Operator
Dialing ICM + 0 seizes an available line
