Troubleshooting steps for a Performance Tool W54171 unit that is not creating a vacuum:

1. Check the pump handle – Ensure it is not broken or damaged. A broken handle can prevent proper operation.
2. Inspect hoses – Make sure hoses are properly connected and fit tightly. Loose or mismatched hoses can cause air leaks.
3. Verify valve compatibility – Some units have different valves than shown on the packaging. Ensure the valve fits and seals correctly.
4. Seal connections – Use tape (e.g., electrical tape) to improve sealing if connections are loose or not airtight.
5. Listen for leaks – If you hear air escaping, the pump or hoses may be leaking. Identify and seal the leak if possible.
6. Check the plastic valve – A failed valve can prevent vacuum. Try applying oil to the valve or replace it if defective.

If issues persist after these steps, the unit may be defective.
