Taking out of operation at short notice

10.1

Possible emergency repairs

WARNING
Danger of fire and explosion due to lubricating oil leaks
Leaking oil may ignite on hot surfaces. This can result in serious injuries to
personnel or fatal accidents.
Cordon off danger area.

Raise the alarm and, depending on the situation, stop the engine.
u
Seal the oil leak.
u
Soak up oil and dispose of in an environmentally compatible manner.
u
Wear safety gloves to protect against thermal hazards.
CAUTION
Directives for taking out of operation
Serious damage to engine or property can be caused by non-compliance
with the directives for blanking the turbocharger off the engine.
Follow the directives of the enginebuilder.
u
To enable you to quickly put an engine back into operation after a turbocharger has sus-
tained damage, ABB Turbo Systems recommends having a replacement turbocharger or ap-
propriate spare parts available in storage (see chapter Storage of new turbochargers and
spare parts). The defective turbocharger can be removed and the replacement turbocharger
installed within a short period of time.
