► Open the shroud locks (1) by turning them 1/4 turn
counter-clockwise with the combination wrench.
► Remove the shroud (2).
► Remove the spark plug boot (3) by pulling the tab (4).
► Clean the area around the spark plug with a damp cloth or
soft brush.
► Unscrew the spark plug.
► Clean the spark plug with a damp cloth.
► If the spark plug is corroded, install a new spark plug.
► If damp, dry the spark plug thoroughly before re-inserting
it.
► Insert the spark plug and tighten it down firmly.
► Connect the spark plug boot (3) and press it down firmly.
► Place the shroud in position.
► Tighten the shroud locks until you hear an audible click.

21.5 Cleaning the Spark Arresting Screen

WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire from the emission of hot particles,
Never operate your chain saw with a missing or damaged

spark arresting screen. Never modify your muffler or spark
arresting screen.
NOTICE
Some state or federal laws or regulations may require a
properly maintained spark arrester for certain uses.
To clean the spark arrester screen:
► Shut off the engine, @ 15.
► Engage the chain brake, @ 12.1.
► Allow the chain saw and muffler to cool down.
► Remove the screw (1).
► Pull out spark arresting screen (2)
► Clean the spark arresting screen.
► If the spark arresting screen is clooged or heavily
carbonized, have it replaced by an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer.
► Re-insert the spark arresting screen and tighten the
screw.
