Tow ing eyes are situated un
derneath the fro n t and rear
end on the RH side. Use a to w -
bar or long cable.
Tow -start vehicle only w ith the
battery connected.
Caution: Remember, however, that
until the engine is running, the
pow er steering and power brakes
do not offer assistance and con
siderable additional e ffo rt is re
quired to steer and stop the car.

Turn idle speed adjusting knob
counterclockw ise to the stop. S h ift
selector lever to "N " and turn key
in steering lock to position "2".
Have vehicle tow ed. Having a t
tained a speed o f 18 mph
(30 km /h) — cold transmission —
or 30 mph (50 km /h) — w arm
transm ission — keep on driving at
this speed fo r approxim ately 2 m in
utes to ensure sufficient fluid
pressure in the transmission.
To crank the engine, s h ift selector
lever to "L " (300 D, 300 CD -
Touch the accelerator only when
the engine starts firing. As soon
as the engine has started, im m edia
tely return selector lever to "N ".
A d just idle speed. It is im p orta nt to
allow the engine to idle fo r at
least 3 m inutes before starting o ff
because the preglowing process
starts w hen the key is in steering
lock position "2 " and is not im m e
diately disrupted after the engine
has been tow -started. During this
tim e the preglowing process is cut
out autom atically.
If the engine has not fired after a
fe w seconds, shift the selector lever
from "L " to "N " to protect the
transmission from damage.

again w ith the selector lever in po
sition "N " and repeat the starting
procedure.
