    Objective The newly introduced High Definition Projection Televisions, P9 Series, accommodate the 480i, 480p, and the 1080i Digital TV formats. They also function as complete NTSC TV receivers. Some of the models contain a digital tuner that allows the reception of digital TV broadcast as well as digital cable television, eliminating the use of a Set Top Box.

    New Features Digital tuner Built in Set Top Box The built in Set Top Box is designed to receive NTSC and ATSC television broadcast. The ATSC reception includes High Definition TV (HDTV) and Standard Definition TV (SDTV). Each consists of many formats. The well-known NTSC system is not included among the DTV formats.

    DT-Board (Digital Tuner) Block Diagram The built in Set Top Box is de signed to receive NTSC and ATSC television broadcast. The ATSC signal reception includes High Definition TV (HDTV) and Standard Definition TV (SDTV). Each consists of many formats. The well-known NTSC system is not included among the DTV formats.
  • Page 61 The tuner of the DT-Board outputs a 44MHz IF (Intermediate Frequency) sig which is in digital form. The IF signal is then applied to a transport decoder circu consisting of IC8008 to recover the Transport Stream. The MPEGII transport stream then enters the input selection IC, IC8009. The 8VSB or 16 VSB transport stream passes through the switch and enters IC8024.
  • Page 62 If the unit fails to power up, a simple way to isolate a defect to the DT-Board is to disconnect it from the unit. Make sure all connections to other boards are removed before powering the unit. If the unit powers up and operation is restored, the DT-Board is possibly defective.

The 2 channel stereo signal is then amplified by IC8036 and output to IC8044 for selectio between analog TV audio and digital TV audio.     RL801. AC is applied to the circuit via the relays RL801 and RL802. In its operation, the main power supply is similar to the main power supply introduced earlier in some Panasonic chassis such as the "P2 Chassis". It is a switch-mode converter with current and voltage feedback loops.
