BMW Service can supply suitable lashings
for securing larger or heavier loads. Four
lashing eyes are provided for attaching the
lashing equipment. Two lashing eyes are
located on the inside panel of the luggage
compartment 1, two others are on the side
panels of the luggage compartment 2.
Comply with the information supplied with
the lashings.
Always stow and secure the load as
described above, so that it cannot endan-
ger the car's occupants, for example if sudden
braking or avoiding action is necessary.
Do not exceed the car's permitted gross weight
or the axle load limits, see page 130, otherwise
the car's operating safety may be endangered
and the construction and use regulations
infringed.
Heavy or hard objects should not be carried
loose inside the car, since they could be dis-
lodged, for example by heavy braking, sudden
avoiding action or similar, and endanger the
occupants.<

Roof rack*

A special roof rack system is available as an
accessory for your BMW. If it is used, please
comply with the installation instructions sup-
plied.

Loading the roof rack
*
A loaded roof rack alters the car's road behav-
iour and steering response quite considerably,
by moving its centre of gravity.
When loading the roof rack, ensure that the
specified roof load limit, the car's gross weight
limit and the axle loads are not exceeded.
The relevant figures are shown in the Weights
section on page 130.
The roof load must be uniformly distributed and
should not be too large in area. Heavy items
should always be placed at the bottom. Make
sure that there is sufficient clearance for raising
the glass roof and that no objects extend back
far enough to be struck by the luggage com-
partment lid when it is opened.
Correct, secure loading of the roof rack will pre-
vent items from shifting or falling off during the
journey.
Drive smoothly and avoid violent acceleration,
braking or cornering.

Towing a trailer

The trailer load limit is given on page 130.
Trailer tow hitch with swivel-mounted
ball head*
The ball head for the trailer tow hitch is located
on the underside of the vehicle. It can be swiv-
elled in and out when the ignition is switched
off. See also the operating instructions supplied
by the system's manufacturer.
