D i s p l a y
This section shows the input selected and for FM or AM, the
band and the frequency. When the sleep timer is set with the
remote control transmitter, this section shows the number of
minutes left on the sleep timer.

APR Indicators
Automatic Precision Reception System (FM Mode)
APR system is Onkyo's unique computer-controlled system.
APR system automatically sets the RF stage gain (Distance/
L o c a l ) . t h e N R f u n c t i o n ( O F F / O N ) ( T X - 8 6 0 o n l y ) f o r r e d u c i n g
n o i s e i n w e a k s i g n a l s , t h e H l - B L E N D f u n c t i o n ( O F F / O N ) f o r
reducing noise in weak stereo signals, and the auto
stereo/mono reception modes to the proper settings Íor the
qualily of the broadcast currently being received. This indicator
changes each time the APR circuit switches between the
L O C A L / D X , N R O F F / O N , H ] - B L E N D O F F / O N O r
AUTO/MONO to show the current APR setting. (APR system
is effective for only FM reception.)

b r o a d c a s t , s e t t h e F M M u t i n g / M o d e b u t t o n p l t o t h e O F F
( M O N O ) a n d t u n e i n t h e F M b r o a d c a s t . I n t h i s c a s e , e v e n
stereo broadcasts will be heard in mono.

( S H I F T ) a n d I n d i c a t o r s
The FM/AM Preset buttons @ can be used to store a total of
20 radio stations. Use this button to switch the Preset buttons
b e t w e e n t h e m e m o r y c h a n n e l 1 - 1 0 m o d e a n d t h e m e m o r y
c h a n n e l 1 1 - 2 0 m o d e . T h e s e t t i n g s w i t c h e s b e t w e e n 1 - 1 0 a n d
1 1 - 2 O e a c h t i m e t h i s b u t t o n i s p r e s s e d a n d t h e r e s p e c t i v e i n -
dicator lights. When power is turned on, the settitng is the same
as when power was last turned off.

F M M u t i n g / M o d e B u t t o n ( F M M U T E / M O D E ) a n d t n -
dicator
ln the Muting ON (STEREO) setting, FM stereo reception is
possible and the muting circuit suppresses interstation noise
and weak FM stations. ln the OFF (MONO) setting, interstation
noise will be heard and even weak FM stations can be received.
(Muting/Mode operation is efÍective Íor only FM reception.)
Memory Button (MEMORY) and lndicator
Press this button to place a station in the memory using the
FM/AM Preset buttons @. Wtren this button is pressed, the
indicator lights Íor about 8 seconds. While the indicator is lit,
press one of the FM/AM Preset buttons @. Upon press, the
displayed frequency will be stored in memory. The pressed
pÍeset number will be displayed in digitalform, and the memory
indicator will go out to indicate that memory operation has
been completed.
Bass Gontrol Knob (BASS)
Adjust to strengthen or weaken bass response.
Treble Control Knob (TREBLE)
Adjust to strengthen or weaken treble response.
S i m u l a t e d S t e r e o S w i t c h ( S I M U L A T E D S T E R E O )
Set this switch to the on position to add a stereo-like effect
to monaural sources (TV programs, mono VCR recording, AM
r a d i o , e t c . ) .
B a l a n c e C o n t r o l K n o b ( B A L A N C E )
Use this control to adjust the relative volume levels of the left
and right speaker systems.
V o l u m e C o n t r o l K n o b a n d l n d i c a t o r ( V O L U M E )
Turn clockwise to increase the volume level. The volume can
be adjusted manually and by the remote control transmitter's
Volume UP/DOWN key Í251. When adjusted by remote control.
the volume knob rotates along with the volume indicator on
the knob. This allows vou to see the volume level from a dis-
tance.

Set this switch to the on position to add an extra feeling of
p o w e r a n d r e a l i s m t o t h e l o w r a n g e . l t s f u n c t i o n i s u n l i k e t h a t
of the conventional bass control. Adjust level control to raise
and lower the amount oÍ the dynamic bass expander effect.

remote control transmitter. lf the power switch I

signal is received from the remote control transmitter.
