In automatic drive program S (
during manual gearshifting (
HYBRID operating mode is available.
If you switch from automatic drive program S to
automatic drive program E, HYBRID operating
mode continues to be selected.
If manual gearshifting is deactivated, the most
recently active automatic drive program and
most recently active operating mode are selec-
ted.
Each time the vehicle is started, the HYBRID
operating mode is selected automatically in the
õ driving status.
Starting the engine
The vehicle starts silently in electric mode with-
out the combustion engine. The internal com-
bustion engine starts only after the power
demanded by the driver exceeds the available
power that the electric motor can currently pro-
vide.
Noiseless start operation is dependent on the
outside temperature and the operating temper-
ature of the internal combustion engine. If not all
conditions for noiseless start operation are ful-
filled, the vehicle starts with the internal com-
bustion engine.

Depress the brake pedal.

Start the vehicle (see the vehicle Operator's

The vehicle is operational when the õ
indicator lights up in the multifunction display
( page 41).

Pulling away
Depress the brake pedal and keep it

depressed.
Shift the transmission to position h or k.

If the Apply Brake to Shift from 'P'

display message appears in the multifunction
display, depress the brake pedal more firmly
and select the desired transmission position.
Release the brake pedal.

Carefully depress the accelerator pedal.

Drive programs

DYNAMIC SELECT switch

Use the DYNAMIC SELECT switch to change the
drive program. Depending on the drive program
selected the following vehicle characteristics
will change:
the hybrid drive (engine and transmission
R
management)
the suspension
R
the steering
R
the climate control:
R
the climate control settings
-
the rear window defroster operation period
-
the performance of the seat heating
-
the availability of the Eco Assistant
R
Each time you start the engine, drive program C
is activated. You can find further information on
starting the engine in the vehicle Operator's
Manual.
Press DYNAMIC SELECT switch : forward or
X
back until the desired drive program is selec-
ted.
The status icon of the selected drive program
is shown in the multifunction display.
In addition, the current drive program settings
are shown briefly on the multimedia system
display.

In a few countries, the ECO start/stop func-
tion is deactivated at the factory due to the
available fuel grade. In this case, the ECO
start/stop function is not available in any
drive program, regardless of the display in the
multimedia system display.
