E. Machined Metal Parts or Assemblies
(1) Remove bulk of surface grease and dirt with clean rags. Blow dust from surfaces, holes,
and recesses with compressed air.
(2) Immerse machined metal parts in solvent and scrub until clean, working over all surfaces
and into all holes and recesses with a suitable nonmetallic brush.
NOTE: Flat, wood-backed brushes with soft, fiber bristles are recommended for surfaces;
round brushes, like those used for washing bottles and test tubes, are
recommended for holes and recesses.
(3) Remove parts from solvent and permit solvent to drain.
(4) Immerse parts in clean solvent and drain. Blow solvent from holes and recesses with
compressed air.
(5) Dry in dust-free, dry area, or suitable enclosure. Radiant heat used in a ventilated enclo-
sure is recommended for drying.
F. Miscellaneous Metal Parts
Clean metal parts, such as mounting plates, mounting clamps, brackets, heat sinks, and at-
taching hardware in a suitable cleaning machine, or wash them in isopropyl alcohol (Ref. Fig.
401) to remove all accumulated dirt and dust. Dry with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth and com-
pressed air. Lubricate as required.
NOTE: An ultrasonic cleaner may be used to clean small metal parts. Follow the manufactur-
er's instructions.
G. Nonmetallic Parts
Nonmetallic parts, excluding electrostatic discharge sensitive parts.
(1) Clean all surfaces with a soft-bristle brush and compressed air.
CAUTION: DO NOT SATURATE MYLAR, NYLON, EPOXY, FIBERGLASS, OR TE-
