FAMILIARIZATION

We advise you to gradually become familiar with your canopy by
initially flying in calm conditions on a site that you are experienced
with. Before each flight make a thorough pre-flight inspection,
checking for any tears, tangling of the suspension lines, risers, all
quick links and the harness.
A few practise inflations in easy conditions will strengthen your
trust in the handling of the BI BETA 3 from the outset.
Brakes
There should be a minimum 7 cm between the brakes released
position and the start of action on the canopy. The whole brake
action is more or less 30 cm.
Start Check
-
Lines free
-
Canopy open
-
Pilot's and passenger's harnesses and helmets buckles
properly closed (reserve parachute OK)
-
Wind direction and strength observed and evaluated.
-
Airspace and visibility OK

Take off
The BI BETA 3 is suited to forward and reverse inflations. Lay the
canopy out so as to maintain its elliptical form at the leading edge.
Hold the A risers below the large quick link then advance until all
the A suspension lines are under light tension. Position yourself in
a central position relative to the canopy. At the start of take off,
gently accelerate and guide the risers until the canopy is above
your head, without either pulling down or pushing the risers exes-
sively forward. The canopy rises progressively without any 'hard
point'. The canopy will cease to rise if not guided by the risers. The
BI BETA 3 inflates easily and rises without any overshooting.
For take off, set the trimmers on neutral position.
Normal flight
The BI BETA 3 achieves best glide with brakes in the hands up
position. Lightly applying brakes will reduce the sink rate. When
flying through turbulence the application of a small amount of
brake will increase stability.
Turns
The BI BETA 3 has very comfortable brakes. It will respond to
brake application in an immediate and proportional manner to the
amount of brake applied.
To get used to it's turning characteristics, make first turns gra-
dually and progressively. To make the most efficient turns in ther-
mal conditions, find the core of the thermal and control the radius
of your circle with the outside brake, giving you more speed.
Trimmers
We have developed an innovative Trimmers system with flat auto-
block buckles instead of claws buckles (which tend to quickly wear
away the straps). Trimmers give more safety in case the passen-
ger is light or the wind is strong. When loosing the trimmers, this
adsd 7cm to the D risers and 3,5 cm to the C risers, increasing the
penetration if necessary. Moreover, when making the big ears, the
trimmers give more speed and more safety.
47
If you want to loosen the trimmers, and accelerate, pull
up the upper strap (see S1).
Conversely, if you want to come back to normal position,
S1
pull down the lower strap (see S2).
The lower strap is surrounded by a velcro
band. If you don't use the trimmers, leave them
S2
in neutral position and fix with the velcro band.
If you often use the trimmers, leave the strap
out of the velcro band.
Symmetrical or assymmetrical collapses
The BI BETA 3 conveys a highly satisfying solid feel. An active fly-
ing style will virtually prevent collapses. Larger collapses (over
50%) are characterised by a reasonably dynamic turn, which is
easy to control. For these situations we recommend the following:
apply brake on the open side so as not to enter a spiral dive but be
aware of creating a potential stall. The aim is to fly the glider in a
desirable direction (avoiding obstacles) and then reopen the col-
lapsed side using a generous pumping action.
