Setting the DVD menu language

Some DVDs have a menu. Select the language from this menu.
This setting cannot be set during playback.

The initial setup menu is displayed.
Select [Language].
Select [DVD Language].
Press the cursor button
(right direction).
Select the preferred item.

Language: Menu screen is displayed with the language
selected by the subtitle language.

English: The menu screen is displayed in English.
Other: Select the desired language from among
136 languages. For details, see "When
[Other] is selected by the subtitle language/
audio language/DVD language setting" on
page 34.

When a language that is not recorded on the DVD has been
set, the menu screen is displayed with one of the languages
recorded.

Turning the subtitle display
on/off
Select whether subtitles are to be displayed or not, or whether
"Assist Subtitle" is to be displayed. This setting cannot be
changed during playback.

(Setting when shipped).
Off: The subtitles are not displayed. However,
some DVDs enforce the display of subti-
tles (See the next page).
Assist subtitle: An assist subtitle is one which, for exam-
ple, helps to explain a scene for persons
who are hearing impaired. The assist
subtitles are displayed when this setting
is selected, but only if they have been re-
corded on the disc.
