Making a distress call
In an emergency you can use your u nit t o make an
automatic DSC distress call.
With the spring loaded cover o pen:

1. Press and hold the
DISTRESS button for 3 seconds.
Once the DISTRESS button is pressed a 3 second
count d own will b egin, w hen the count d own reaches
zero the DSC distress call i s transmitted.
The distress call i s repeated automatically until i t i s
acknowledged.
2. Once an acknowledgement i s received, o r i f n o
acknowledgement i s received for 1 5 seconds; p ress
and hold the
PTT button.
3. Slowly and clearly speak the details of t he distress
in the following format:
MAYDAY , M AYDAY , M AYDAY
This is <state name of v essel 3 times>
MAYDAY<state name of v essel 1 time>
My position is
<state latitude and longitude, o r t rue
bearing and distance from a known point.>
I a m <state nature of d istress e.g. sinking, o n fire
etc.>
I h ave <state number o f p ersons on board and any
other i nformation — drifting, fl ares fired etc.>
I R EQUIRE IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE
OVER
4. Release the
PTT button.
Making a Mayday call
In an emergency you can use your u nit t o make a
Mayday call.
1. Press the
16 PLUS button.
2. Press and hold the
PTT button.
3. Slowly and clearly speak the details of t he distress:
MAYDAY , M AYDAY , M AYDAY
This is <state name of v essel 3 times>
MAYDAY<state name of v essel 1 time>
My position is
<state latitude and longitude, o r t rue
bearing and distance from a known point.>
I a m <state nature of d istress e.g. sinking, o n fire

steps 2 to 4 above.

unless instructed in this document.
