Outboard operation is used to turn bowls, and other operations, which otherwise would not
be able to be done while over the Lathe Bed (66).
1.
Under the Headstock (24) and Lathe Bed (66), loosen Hex Bolt (70) using a Spanner
Wrench. Loosen enough to move the Headstock 90 or 180 degrees away from the
Lathe Bed. See Figure M, below.
2.
Retighten Hex Bolt (70).
3.
Attach a Faceplate (67) to the center-back of the wood stock using wood screws.
4.
Remove the Spur Center (16) as previously described on page 9.
5.
Screw on the Faceplate (67) with the wood stock attached to the Spindle (11) and
secure in place.
6.
Manually turn the stock to verify it does not contact the work bench or other
obstruction.
7.
If required for turning, attach the Bowl Turning Rest (not included). This is available
from Harbor Freight Tools, Part No. 90289. See Figure N, below.
8.
Begin the turning operation as described on page 12.
