Important
Read this user manual carefully before you use the
appliance and save it for future reference.
- Check if the voltage indicated on the bottom of the
appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage
before you connect the appliance.
- Only connect the appliance to an earthed wall
socket.
- If the mains cord is damaged, you must have
it replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by
Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid
a hazard.
- Do not immerse the appliance or the mains cord in
water or any other liquid.
- Always unplug the appliance after use.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they have been given supervision
or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a
person responsible for their safety.
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they
do not play with the appliance.
- Do not let the mains cord hang over the edge of the
table or worktop on which the appliance stands and
keep the cord away from hot surfaces.
- Do not let the appliance operate unattended. Do not
operate it under or near curtains or other flammable
materials or under wall cabinets, as bread may burn.
- Avoid touching the metal parts on top of the toaster,
as they get very hot during toasting. Only touch the
controls.
- To avoid the risk of fire, frequently remove crumbs
from the crumb tray. Make sure the crumb tray is
correctly placed.
- Immediately unplug the toaster if you observe fire
or smoke.
- If a slice of bread gets stuck inside the toaster, unplug
the appliance and let it cool down before you try to
remove the bread. Do not use a knife or a sharp tool,
as these may cause damage to the heating elements.
- This appliance is only intended for household use. Do
not use it for commercial or industrial purposes and
do not use it outdoors.
- Do not insert oversized foods or metal foil
packages into the toaster, as this may cause fire or
electric shock.
- Do not place the toaster on a hot surface.
- The warming rack is only meant for warming up rolls
or croissants. Do not put any other ingredients on
the warming rack, as this may lead to a hazardous
situation.

Electromagnetic fields (EMF)

This Philips appliance complies with all standards
regarding electromagnetic fields (EMF). If handled
properly and according to the instructions in this user
manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientific
evidence available today.
Before first use
1 Remove any stickers and wipe the body of the
toaster with a damp cloth.
2 Let the toaster complete a few toasting cycles
without bread in it. Put the toaster in a properly
ventilated room and select the highest browning
setting.

This burns off any dust that may have accumulated on the
heating elements and prevents unpleasant smells during
toasting.
Using the appliance
Never let the toaster operate unattended.
1 To adjust the length of the cord, wind part
of it round the brackets in the base of the
appliance (Fig. 2).
2 Put the appliance on a stable and flat surface, away
from curtains and other combustible materials.
3 Put the plug in the wall socket.
Toasting bread
1 Put one or two slices of bread in the
toaster (Fig. 3).
2 Select the 7 mode by pressing the mode button
until 7 appears on the display. Depending on the
previously selected mode, you have to press the
mode button once or several times. (Fig. 4)
3 Select the desired browning setting. (Fig. 5)
Select a low setting for lightly toasted bread and a high
setting for darkly toasted bread.
- Press the - button once or several times to select a
lower setting for lighter toast.
- Press the + button once or several times to select a
higher setting for darker toast.
The display shows the selected setting.

4 Push the toasting lever down to switch on the
appliance. (Fig. 6)
The toasting lever only stays down if the appliance is
connected to the mains.
The top part of the toaster gets hot during toasting. Be
careful not to touch it.
The stop button lights up.
,
The display shows the toasting time and starts
,
to count down. The last minute is displayed in
seconds (Fig. 7).
Note: You can stop the toasting process and pop the bread
up at any time by pressing the STOP button on top of the
toaster (Fig. 8).
5 If required, you can adjust the browning setting
during toasting (Fig. 9)
During toasting, you can press the + button to get darker
toast or the - button to get lighter toast.
The toasting time and browning setting are
,
adjusted on the display.
Note: When you select a lower setting for lighter toast, the
toast may pop up immediately because the desired browning
level has already been reached.
6 When the toast is ready, you hear a beep, the
display flashes a few times and the bread pops up.
7 Remove the toasted bread. To remove smaller
items, you can move the toasting lever upwards a
little further (Fig. 10).
Note: If bread gets stuck inside the toaster, remove the plug
from the wall socket, let the appliance cool down completely
and carefully remove the bread from the toaster. Do not use
a knife or another sharp metal tool to do this and do not
touch the metal internal parts of the toaster.
Toasting frozen bread
1 Select the 8 mode by pressing the mode
button. (Fig. 11)
Depending on the previously selected mode, you have to
press the mode button once or several times.
2 Select the desired browning setting and push the
toasting lever down to switch on the appliance on
(see section 'Toasting bread').
Reheating toasted bread
1 Select the  mode by pressing the mode
button. (Fig. 12)
Depending on the previously selected mode, you have to
press the mode button once or several times.
2 Push the toasting lever down to switch on the
appliance.
Note: You cannot adjust the browning setting. This mode
operates at a fixed setting for an optimal result.
Toasting one side only
Ideal for toasting bagels and baguettes.
1 Half the bagel or baguette lengthwise and shorten
the baguette to a length of max. 13cm.
2 Put the bread in the toaster with the side to be
toasted facing the front of the toaster. (Fig. 13)
3 Select the 9 mode by pressing the mode
button. (Fig. 14)
Depending on the previously selected mode, you have to
press the mode button once or several times.
4 Select the desired browning setting and push the
toasting lever down to switch on the appliance on
(see section 'Toasting bread').
Warming up rolls and croissants
1 Push the warming rack lever down to unfold the
warming rack (Fig. 15).
Never put the rolls to be warmed up directly on top
of the toaster. Always unfold the warming rack to avoid
damage to the toaster.
2 Put the rolls or croissants on top of the warming
rack.
Do not warm up more than 2 items at a time.
3 Select the mode by pressing the mode
0
button. (Fig. 16)
Depending on the previously selected mode, you have to
press the mode button once or several times.
4 Push the toasting lever down to switch on the
appliance.
Note: You cannot adjust the browning setting. This mode
operates at a fixed setting for an optimal result.
Note: If you want even warmer rolls or croissants, turn them
over and push the toasting lever down again.
Sleep mode
If the toaster has not been used for 5 minutes, it goes into
sleep mode automatically. Press any button to reactivate
the toaster.
Cleaning
Never immerse the appliance in water.
1 Unplug the appliance.
2 Let the appliance cool down.
3 Clean the appliance with a damp cloth. Do not use
abrasive cleaning agents.
4 Clean the display with a dry cloth without exerting
any pressure.
5 Slide the crumb tray out of the appliance to remove
crumbs (Fig. 17).
Do not hold the appliance upside down and do not shake
it to remove the crumbs.
Environment
- Do not throw away the appliance with the normal
household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in
at an official collection point for recycling. By doing
this, you help to preserve the environment (Fig. 18).
