Reaction effects

DANGER
Mortal danger on account of cuts, caused
by suddenly arising reaction effects.
Kick-back
A kick-back occurs if:
– The saw chain accidentally hits an obsta-
cle in the upper area of the guide bar tip.
– The saw chain is jammed at the guide
bar tip.
DANGER
Mortal danger on account of the chain saw
kicking back.
– Plan the cut and recognise dangers pri-
or to sawing.
– Always hold the chain saw firmly and
with both hands.
– Always saw with full speed, wait until
the chain has reached its full speed.
– Do not saw with the guide bar tip.
– Do not lean too far forward when sawing.
– Never cut several branches at the same
time during debranching.
– Do not hold the chain saw above shoul-
der height.

– Always work with sharp and properly
tensioned saw chain.
Drawing in / recoil
Basically this effect occurs oppositional to
the chain running direction on the work-
piece.
With drawing in, the chain saw is jerkily
pulled to the workpiece.
Drawing in occurs if:
– The saw chain is jammed during sawing
with the lower edge of the guide bar or
if it hits an obstacle in the workpiece.
With a recoil the chain saw is jerkily pushed
towards the user.
A recoil occurs if:
– The saw chain is jammed during sawing
with the upper edge of the guide bar or
if it hits an obstacle in the workpiece.

Mortal danger on account of uncontrolled
movement of the chain saw.
– Plan the cut and recognise dangers pri-
or to sawing.
– Always hold the chain saw firmly and
with both hands.
– Do not twist or cant the guide bar during
sawing.
