This command displays a guideline pattern to help you align the image

GUIDE LINE

according to your liking. The selected option is displayed when you frame
pictures and videos.
Overexposed (pixels saturated with light) areas within the image will blink
between black and white when the Auto Review function is activated or
when you play back a picture or start a video. The blinking areas show
where there are no details because the pixels' capacity for absorbing light

is exceeded.
Note: This does not work in Multi Playback, Calendar Playback, or Play-
back Zoom Modes.
This command sets which parameters (focus and/or exposure) are locked
when the camera's AF/AE LOCK button is pushed prior to taking a picture.
AF/AE LOCK

Focus, exposure, or both are retained as long as the AF/AE LOCK button
remains depressed, even if you take multiple pictures.
This command sets the AF/AE LOCK operation when you take a picture
with a fixed focus or exposure. The AF/AE LOCK button does not have to
remain depressed in order for the camera to retain the settings. (See the
AF/AE LOCK HOLD

AF/AE LOCK command.) The camera will hold the AF/AE LOCK button's
setting through multiple pictures until the AF/AE LOCK button is pushed
again.
Depending on the camera's settings, the image will be focused automati-
cally without having to press the shutter-release button halfway.
PRE AF

Note: This function will cause the battery to drain faster. It will not work
if you are using a lens without Auto Focus, in low-light situations, and in
Preview Mode.
This command allows the user to move the auto focus area when using
DIRECT FOCUS

face detection, 1-area-focusing, 23-area-focusing, or MF Assist during
AREA
recording.
This command prevents out-of-focus pictures from being taken.
Note: This function should be disabled if you plan to take a picture when

automatic focus cannot find a focus point. The command is disabled
during videos.

OFF
Disables the guideline display.
Displays a 3 × 3 grid over the entire image. This allows you to visualize
how balanced the image is across the entire screen.
Displays a diagonal grid pattern radiating from the center of the screen.
This allows you to perfectly center the image or, if you would like for the
image to be balanced differently, determine how best to compose the
image to get your desired results.
Displays a movable crosshair pattern consisting of two lines, one vertical
and the other horizontal, each of which can be positioned indepen-
dently within the screen. This guideline pattern can help you balance off-
centered images.
OFF
Disables the Highlight function.
ON
Enables the Highlight function.
AE
Only the exposure is locked.
AF
Only the focus is locked.
AF/AE
Both the focus and exposure are locked.
OFF
Disables the AF/AE LOCK HOLD function.
ON
Enables the AF/AE LOCK HOLD function.
OFF
Disables the Pre AF function.
Quick Auto Focus: Automatically adjusts the focus when the camera
Q-AF
becomes steady.
C-AF
Continuous Auto Focus: Automatically adjusts the focus all the time.
OFF
Disables Direct Focus Area function.
ON
Enables Direct Focus Area function.
Disables the Focus Priority function. Allows you to record a picture when
OFF
the shutter-release button is fully pressed, regardless of whether the
image is fully in focus.
Enables the Focus Priority function. Will not allow a picture to be recorded
ON
until it is brought into focus.
