A. The DEF key
The DEF key (short for define) provides several time-.aving shortcuts .. .
A.1. Running DEFinab)e Programs
The DE F key is the th ird met hod of beginning a program. As we have seen in the sect ion on
the RUN commar>d. a program may be "labeled"' wi th a letter. The DEF key may be used to
quickly initiate a labeled program . This is done by pressing the DEF key followed by t he
alphabetic key which corresponds to the label of 1he program, The following keys may
be
used
in this manner:
A. S, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, Z, X, C, V,
B, N, M, SPACE and
=
As an example, enter the following statements to create three labeled programs:

In RUN mode, try beginn ing each program w i th t he DEFine key. Notice that specifying a
letter for which no corresponding labeled program

A.2. Pre-assigned Keywords
A f ew of the most frequently used keywords have been permanently assigned to a single
alphabetic key in t he second row of t he keyboard. These keywords may be retrieved, in any
mode, by pressing the DEFine key followed by one of the alphabetic keys. For example, to
retrieve the keyword USIN G type:
