14. Troubleshooting

No DCF-reception
• Do not put the weather station next to electronic devices, metal parts, cables, etc. Bad reception can
also be expected, e.g. in case of metallised insulation glass windows, reinforced concrete construction,
coated special wallpaper or basement rooms.
Try setting up the weather station by a window and start the scan for the DCF-signal manually (see chap-
ter 12. a).
• Reception depends on distance from the transmitter of the DCF signal (in Mainflingen near Frankfurt on
the Main). Its range is up to 1500 km, and under perfect reception conditions even up to 2000 km.
Both the current weather and the local situation (mountains/valleys, broadband interferences from
strong transmitters, etc.) may impair range.
• The weather station will automatically perform several reception attempts for the DCF signal at night
because less interference is expected then.
• If DCF reception is off, switch it on (see chapter 12. b).
• Set the time and date manually.
The weather station cannot find the outdoor sensor
• Start a manual search for the outdoor sensor at the weather station (see chapter 12. c).
• Observe chapter 15 on range.
• Reduce the distance between weather station and outdoor sensor.
• Check the batteries in the outdoor sensor. Have the batteries been inserted properly (polarity) or are the
batteries weak or flat?
Try replacing the batteries with by ones.
• Do not use rechargeable batteries for the outdoor sensor. The lower voltage of rechargeable batteries
(battery = 1.5 V, rechargeable battery = 1.2 V) may reduce range or negatively influence function.
Conventional NiMH rechargeable batteries have a relatively high self-discharge; rechargeable batteries
also are very sensitive to temperature changes. This will further decrease operating time at low outdoor
temperatures.
• Push the button "RESET" (32) at the outdoor sensor. A new code for radio transmission will be generated.
Then start the scan for the outdoor sensor again.
Chaotic characters in the display of the weather station
• If the display of the weather station does not show any proper display, remove the batteries for a few
seconds and insert them again.
• Replace the batteries by new ones.
• Use high-quality alkaline batteries instead of rechargeable batteries.
• Push the button "RESET" (16), e.g. with a toothpick. This will reset the weather station.
Wrong weather forecast
• Observe the information in chapter 12. g).
