1)The working range can be decreased by unfavourable environmental
conditions (e.g. direct sun irradiation).
The measuring tool can be clearly identified with the serial number 10
on the type plate.
Assembly
Inserting/Replacing the Batteries
Using alkali-manganese or rechargeable batteries is recom-
mended for operation of the measuring tool.
To open the battery lid 8, press on the latch 7 and fold the bat-
tery lid up. Insert the batteries/rechargeable batteries. When
inserting, pay attention to the correct polarity according to
the representation on the inside of the battery lid.
Always replace all batteries/rechargeable batteries at the
same time. Do not use different brands or types of batteries/
rechargeable batteries together.
 Remove the batteries/rechargeable batteries from the
measuring tool when not using it for longer periods.
When storing for longer periods, the batteries/rechargea-
ble batteries can corrode and self-discharge.
Operation
Initial Operation
 Protect the measuring tool against moisture and direct
sun light.
 Do not subject the measuring tool to extreme tempera-
tures or variations in temperature. As an example, do
not leave it in vehicles for a long time. In case of large vari-
ations in temperature, allow the measuring tool to adjust to
the ambient temperature before putting it into operation.
In case of extreme temperatures or variations in tempera-
ture, the accuracy of the measuring tool can be impaired.
Bosch Power Tools
 Avoid heavy impact to or falling down of the measuring
tool. Damage to the measuring tool can impair its accuracy.
GLL 2-20
After heavy impact or shock, compare the laser lines with a
3 601 K63 J00
known horizontal or vertical reference line.
1)
 Switch the measuring tool off during transport. When
20 m
switching off, the levelling unit, which can be damaged in
±0.4 mm/m
case of intense movement, is locked.

Switching On and Off
4 s
To switch on the measuring tool, push the On/Off switch 11 to
+5...+40 °C
the "On" position. Immediately after switching on, the measur-
–20...+70 °C
ing tool sends two laser beams out of the exit opening 1.

 Do not point the laser beam at persons or animals and
2
do not look into the laser beam yourself, not even from
a large distance.

 Switch the measuring tool off during transport. When
4 x 1.5 V LR6 (AA)
switching off, the levelling unit, which can be damaged in
4 x 1.2 V HR6 (AA)
case of intense movement, is locked.

 Do not leave the switched-on measuring tool unattend-
ed and switch the measuring tool off after use. Other
0.5 kg
persons could be blinded by the laser beam.
125 x 85 x 70 mm
To save energy, only switch the measuring tool on when you
are using it.
Operating Modes
After switching on, the measuring tool is in cross-line operat-
ing mode with automatic levelling.
To change the operating mode, press the "Mode" button 5
until the requested operating mode is indicated by the corre-
sponding illuminated operating-mode indication 4.
The following operating modes are available:
Indication
All three operating modes can be selected either with or with-
out automatic levelling.
Automatic Levelling
Working with Automatic Levelling (see figure F–G)
When working with automatic levelling, the indicator for
working without automatic levelling 2 must not be lit. If re-
quired, switch the automatic levelling on again by pressing
the "Lock" button 6 so that the indicator 2 goes out.
Position the measuring tool on a level and firm support, attach
it to the holder 16 or to the tripod 23.

Operating Mode
Cross-line operation (see figures A, B and E):
The measuring tool generates a horizontal la-
ser plane (360° rotating laser line) and a verti-
cal laser line.
Horizontal operation (see figure C): The
measuring tool generates a horizontal laser
plane.
Vertical operation (see figure D): The meas-
uring tool generates a vertical laser line.
