Content:
The following information is based on experience and findings from customers resulting from different
problems with voltage supply and ignition system because of improper installation.
The list below is not asserted to be complete and has to be seen only as a supplement to the manual because it is
referring only to information we get from the customers service.
We ask you to read this information very carefully and to check all the different items with your installation and
fix any problematic points you can find to avoid possible failure.
General advice regarding circuits:
To avoid any unnecessary high voltage drop, potential equations and possibly EMV failures in the circuit lines
and current collectors, the following instructions must be obeyed:
• circuit lines as short as possible
• adequate cable dimensions (according to VDE 0100 for example 1,5mm² for 15A and 2,5mm²for 20A with
ambient temperatures of approx. 30°C [86°F])
• dimension the contacts (switches, terminals, plug connections, etc.) for the required circuit load
• refined surfaces of the contact material help to avoid corrosion so that there is no high transition resistance
• also the protection against humidity, splash-proof and hose-proof enclosures (IP classes) will help to
increase reliability in operation
• star-shaped connection of the circuit lines, i.e. for a battery circuit it is as follows:
.
-
-
By this way possible current variations or voltage drops in a circuit cannot effect the
neighbour circuits so that EMV problems are reduced.
Battery:
• the line between –pole of battery and engine block as well as to metal frame should be as short as possible.
If the battery can't be placed close to the engine because of technical reasons (balance etc.), then the –pole
clamp must be connected to the engine through an adequate dimensioned cable (at minimum 10mm² for
engine types F23, 27, 32 and 34; 16 mm² for engines F30 and 37).

Hirth-Information
Additional Information on voltage supply
and ignition system
one line each must be laid from + pole terminal of battery through the appertaining fuse
and one switch to the current collector.
a back line must be laid from respective current collector to the - pole of battery (mass-
bus bar). Please use only one mass point for all mass lines to avoid any potential
equations.
