Tensioning the rewind spring
Make a loop in the unwound starter
N
rope and use it to turn the rope rotor
six full revolutions in the direction of
the arrow
Hold the rope rotor tight
N
Pull out the twisted rope and
N
untangle it
Release the rope rotor
N
Slowly let go of rope so that it winds
N
onto the rotor
The starter grip must be drawn firmly
into the rope guide bush. If it tips
sideways: increase the spring tension by
another turn.
When the starter rope is fully extended it
must be possible to rotate the rotor at
least another half turn. If this is not
possible, the spring is overtensioned –
risk of breakage:
Remove one turn of the rope from
N
the rotor
Reinstall the fan housing

Replacing a broken rewind spring
Remove the rope rotor
N
The broken pieces of spring may still be
under tension and can spring apart
unexpectedly on removal from the
housing – risk of injury! Wear face shield
and protective gloves
Carefully pry out the broken pieces
N
of spring with a screwdriver
Apply a few drops of non-resinous
N
oil to the new replacement spring
Position the replacement spring
N
with frame in the fan housing – the
anchor loop must be located over
the lug in the housing
Apply suitable tools (screwdriver,
N
punch, etc.) to the recesses
(arrows) and push the spring into its
seat in the housing – the spring
slides out of the frame.
If the spring has popped out of the spring
housing: refit it, – working
counterclockwise – from the outside
inwards
Reinstall the rope rotor, tension the
N
rewind spring, replace the fan
housing and screw it into place

Storing the Machine

For periods of 3 months or longer
Drain and clean the fuel tank in a
N
well ventilated area.
Dispose of fuel properly in
N
accordance with local
environmental requirements.
Run the engine until the carburetor
N
is dry – this helps prevent the
carburetor diaphragms sticking
together.
Remove the saw chain and guide
N
bar, clean them and spray with
corrosion inhibiting oil.
Thoroughly clean the machine – pay
N
special attention to the cylinder fins
and air filter.
If you use a biological chain and bar
N
lubricant, e.g. STIHL BioPlus,
completely fill the chain oil tank.
Store the machine in a dry, high or
N
locked location, out of the reach of
children and other unauthorized
persons.
