    Important information for the installation of the navigation system Only for use in the BMW dealer organisation. The navigation system may only be installed by a specialist workshop that has the required special tools and manuals. Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car.

    To install the GPS aerial Secure the GPS aerial (1) to the GPS aerial holder (4) using two expanding rivets (3). 039 0403 B The mounting points for the GPS aerial holder (4) are marked in the instrument panel (50). During the installation process ensure that you do not miss the mounting points since otherwise you will damage the instrument panel (50).

    To install the navigation system wiring harness A and additional tacho A signal cable E Connect the fuse holder (38) to branch A2, red cable, after cutting it.     10. To install the monitor wiring harness B, navigation computer adapter cable C and monitor adapter cable D Connect branch C1, black 28-pin plug casing on the navigation computer adapter cable C, to branch B2, black 16-pin socket casing and branch A1, black 12-pin socket casing.

    To install and connect the monitor, gooseneck and remote control For safety reasons the following work must be carried out precisely as described. Secure the monitor mounting bracket (19) to the monitor (18), as shown in the figure, using a countersunk screw M5x10 (33).

On cars with a telephone console ensure that the telephone can be inserted and removed without hindrance. During the installation process ensure that the connection cable (50) for the gooseneck (26) is not kinked or crushed.
  • Page 25 11. To install and connect the monitor, gooseneck and remote control Do not predrill the instrument panel to secure the retaining clip (23). Screw the retaining clip (23) for the gooseneck (26) on to the hatched area on the side part of the instrument panel trim using self-tapping screws 3.5 x 30 (36).
  • Page 26 11. To install and connect the monitor, gooseneck and remote control The installation site for the holding station (28) on the centre console and the cabling route (a or b) is to be agreed with the car owner. Cabling route (a) is recommended in cars with an automatic transmission.

    12. To prepare the installation site for the navigation computer Carefully cut out the insulation mat (50) in the boot at the rear left along the marked edge (51). The insulation mat (50) does not have to be removed in order to cut it out. When cutting out the insulation mat, make sure that the cables and lines behind it are not damaged.

    14. Coding, concluding work and function test If you also wish to install a switch module in the car (not supplied in the parts kit), the concluding work and function test must be delayed until the switch module has been installed.

    15. Calibration and language settings Calibration If the system has been completely disconnected from the car's electrical system you must expect a starting phase lasting approx. 15 minutes when you reconnect it. Position the car so that the GPS aerial has a clear route to the satellite. The navigation system may then require up to 10 minutes until it receives a signal from the satellite.

    16. Car hand-over To hand the car over to the customer: Set the screen colours to the customer’s preferences. Explain the main functions to the customer using the owner’s handbook. When the monitor is removed the supplied cover cap must be placed on the gooseneck. The supplied cover cap is to be given to the customer and details of its use are to be explained.
