ThissignalismeasuredbythesensorandtransferredtotheACMScrashsafetymoduleoveradata
line.TheACMScrashsafetymoduledeterminesfromthisdata,whetherthethresholdforrecognition
ofacollisionwithapedestrianhasbeenreachedorexceededtherebyallowingadecisiontobemade
toactivatetheactuatorsontheenginehood.
Theactuatorsareactivatedbypyrotechnicdevicesraisingtheenginehoodusingthespringforceof
theintegrated,pretensionedsprings.
Theactiveenginehoodisactivatedonlyatspeedsofapprox.20-50km/h.Forsafetyreasonsthe
systemmay,inrarecases,activateevenwhenacollisionwithapedestriancannotbeclearlyexcluded,

Afteractuationoftheactiveenginehoodaredwarningtriangleilluminatesintheinstrumentcluster

movedbacktoitsinitialposition,howevertheactivepedestrianprotectionisagainavailableonlyafter
componentreplacement.
