Adjusting the Brakes

If the parking brake does not hold securely, an
adjustment is required.
1. Check the brake before you adjust it; refer to
Checking the Brakes.
2. Park the machine on a level surface, disengage the
PTO, and set the parking brake.
3. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
4. Release the parking brake; refer to Releasing the
Parking Brake Operation.
5. To adjust the brake, remove the hair pin cotter
and clevis pin from the lower brake lever and yoke
(Figure 65).

6. Loosen the jam nut (Figure 65).
7. Rotate the yoke. To tighten the brake, rotate the
yoke up. To loosen the brake, rotate the yoke down
(Figure 65).
8. Secure the yoke to lower brake lever with the hair pin
cotter pin and clevis pin (Figure 65).
9. Tighten the jam nut (Figure 65).
10. Check the brake operation again; refer to Checking
the Brake.

11. After the brake is adjusted, the lever switch needs
to be checked.
12. Check the gap between the brake lever and the face
of the switch as shown in Figure 66. The gap needs
to be an 1/8 inch (3mm) with the brake engaged.
13. If needed, loosen the screws holding the switch and
adjust the switch.
