Basic setting of spring
preload, rear

Turn the adjuster as far as
it will go counter-clockwise
(One-up without luggage)
Turn the adjuster as far as
it will go counter-clockwise,
then back it off 12 turns in the
clockwise direction. (One-up
with luggage)

Turn the adjuster as far as
it will go counter-clockwise,
then back it off 18 turns in the
clockwise direction. (One-up
with luggage and topcase)
Turn the adjuster as far as it
will go clockwise (Two-up with
luggage and topcase)
Stow the on-board toolkit in its
correct position.

Damping

Setting
Damping must be adapted to suit
the condition of the surface on
which the motorcycle is ridden
and to suit spring preload.
An uneven surface requires
softer damping than a smooth
surface.
An increase in spring preload
requires firmer damping, a re-
duction in spring preload re-
quires softer damping.
Adjust the damping for
rear wheel
Make sure the ground is level
and firm and place the motor-
cycle on its stand.

If you want to reduce damping,
