Replacing the Pump Drive Belt

Check pump drive belt for wear after every 50 hours of
operation.
1. Remove deck belt first. See Replacing the Deck Belt
on page 50.
2. Remove bolt from clutch strap and unplug clutch
electrical wire (Fig. 70).
3. Pull spring loaded idler to side. Remove traction belt
from the engine and hydro pump pulleys (Fig. 70).
4. Install new belt around engine and hydro pump pulleys
(Fig. 70).
5. Pull spring loaded idler to side and align belt. Release
pressure on spring loaded idler (Fig. 70).
6. Reinstall deck belt.

Replacing the Grass Deflector

Warning
An uncovered discharge opening could allow the
lawn mower to throw objects in the operator's or
bystander's direction and result in serious injury.
Also, contact with the blade could occur.
Never operate the lawn mower unless you install a
cover plate, a mulch plate, or a grass chute and
catcher.
1. Remove the locknut, bolt, spring and spacer holding
the deflector to the pivot brackets (Fig. 71). Remove
damaged or worn grass deflector.
2. Install grass deflector. Refer to Installing the Grass
Deflector on page 16.
Important
The grass deflector must be able to lower
down into position. Lift the deflector up to test that it
lowers into the full down position.

Waste Disposal

Engine oil, hydraulic oil and engine coolant are pollutants
to the environment. Dispose of these according to your
state and local regulations.
