Installing the Control Rods

1. Thread the rod fittings an equal distance onto each
control rod (Fig. 5).

2. Install the rod fittings with clevis pins into the holes in
the idler brackets (Fig. 5). Secure the rod fittings with
washers and hairpin cotters (Fig. 5).
Note: Install each rod fitting so that the clevis pin is
above the control rod as shown in Figure 5.
3. Adjust the control rod length by threading the rod in or
out of the rod fitting until there is a 3/16 to 1/4 inch
(5 to 6 mm) clearance between the control rod and the
bottom of the neutral/parking brake lock (Fig. 6).

4. Install the control rod to the drive lever and the
neutral/parking brake lock. Secure the control rod with
a clevis pin and a hairpin cotter.

5. Check the operation of the control rod. If you need to
adjust it, remove the hairpin cotter and the clevis pin
that secure the control rod to the drive levers.
6. Adjust the control rod length by repeating steps 3 and 4
(Fig. 6).

Adjusting the Parking Brakes

Refer to Servicing the Brakes, page 32 for checking the
brakes and adjusting them.

Connecting the Throttle Cable

1. Route the throttle cable inside the left side of the upper
handle, under the fuel tank support, and to the left of the
engine (Fig. 14).
2. Position the throttle control (Fig. 14) 1/4 inch (6 mm)
from the upper end of the slot.
3. Attach the inner wire of the throttle cable to the top hole
in the throttle control lever as shown in Figure 7.

4. Loosen the cable clamp and insert the cable behind it
(Fig. 7).
5. Pull on the cable and move the throttle control to the
Fast position.
6. Tighten the cable clamp screw.
