Checking the Oil Level
Note: Check the oil when the engine is cold.
1. Disengage the power take off (PTO) and stop the
engine. Move the levers to the neutral locked position
and apply the parking brake. Remove the key.
2. Clean around the oil dipstick so that dirt cannot fall into
the filler hole and damage the engine (Fig. 35).
3. Pull the oil dipstick out and wipe the metal end clean
(Fig. 35).
4. Slide the oil dipstick fully into the filler cap. Pull the
dipstick out and look at the metal end (Fig. 35). If the
oil level is low, slowly pour only enough oil into the
filler tube to raise the level to the full mark.
Important
Do not overfill the crankcase with oil
because the engine may be damaged. Do not run the engine
with oil below the low mark because the engine may be
damaged.

Changing the Oil

Replace the oil every 100 hours.
1. Start the engine and let it run for five minutes. This
warms the oil so that it drains better.
2. Park the machine so that the drain side is slightly lower
than the opposite side to ensure that the oil drains
completely. Disengage the power take off (PTO), set the
parking brake, stop the engine, and remove the key.
3. Place a pan below the oil drain. Rotate the oil drain
valve to allow oil to drain (Fig. 36).
4. When the oil has drained completely, close the drain
valve.
Note: Dispose of the used oil at a certified recycling center.

5. Slowly pour approximately 80% of the specified
amount of oil, page 30, into the filler tube (Fig. 35).
Now check the oil level; refer to Checking the Oil
Level, page 31. Slowly add additional oil to bring the
level to the full mark on the dipstick.

Changing the Oil Filter

Replace the oil filter every 200 hours or every other oil
change.
Note: Change the oil filter more frequently when operating
conditions are extremely dusty or sandy.
1. Drain the oil from the engine; refer to Changing the Oil,
page 31.
2. Remove the old filter and wipe the filter adapter
(Fig. 37) gasket surface.
3. Pour new oil of the proper type in through the center
hole. Stop pouring when the oil reaches the bottom of
the threads. Allow a minute or two for the oil to be
absorbed by the filter material.
