Removing the Discharge Cover
for Discharge Mowing
Danger
Without the grass deflector, discharge cover, or
complete grass catcher assembly mounted in
place, you and others are exposed to blade contact
and thrown debris. Contact with rotating mower
blade(s) and thrown debris will cause injury or
death.
Never remove the grass deflector from the
mower because the grass deflector routes
material down toward the turf. If the grass
deflector is ever damaged, replace it
immediately.
Never put your hands or feet under the mower.
Never try to clear discharge area or mower
blades unless you move the blade control switch
(PTO) to the Off position and rotate the
ignition key to the Off position. Also remove the
key and pull the wire off the spark plug.
1. Disengage the blade control (PTO), set the parking
brake, stop the engine, remove the key, and disconnect
the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
2. Thoroughly clean the mower.
3. Raise the grass deflector and remove the chute pin on
the front of the discharge cover (Fig. 52).

Warning
Open holes in the mower could allow the mower
to throw objects in the operator's or bystander's
direction and result in serious injury.
Never operate the mower with open holes; install
hardware in all open mounting hole when you
remove the discharge cover.
7. Install the bolt (5/16 x 1-1/4 inch), flat washer, and
