Section 5 - Maintenance

Supplying Cooling Water to the Engine (Boat in the Water)

NOTE: When operating the engine with the boat in the water, no external source of water
is needed.
1. Place the sterndrive in the full down (in) position.
2. Ensure that the external water level is above the seawater inlets.
3. Start the engine.
4. Depress the throttle‑only button and slowly advance the throttle until the engine
reaches 1300 RPM (± 100 RPM).
5. Observe the water temperature gauge to ensure that the engine is operating in the
normal range.
6. After specified operating time is complete, slowly return the throttle to neutral idle RPM
position.
7. Stop the engine.
