The following hook-ups are suggestions that will help you make the most of your PortaSound's sophis-
ticated MIDI functions. The first three examples show how you can play the PSS-680 via external MIDI
equipment, while example four gives you ideas for controlling other sound sources from the PortaSound.
Example 5 shows connection to a simple MIDI recorder. Finally, hooking the PSS-680 to a sequencer
allows mutual control that even lets you edit the SONG MEMORY data.
1 PortaSound
Standard Keyboard
If you find the PortaSound's mini keys somewhat difficult
to use and would prefer to play the PSS-680 from a
standard-sized keyboard, simply make the following
connections:
Set the PSS-680 to MIDI MODE 00, and make sure that
the receive and transmit channels correspond on both
instruments. You can now play the PortaSound from the
external keyboard. Besides, you can use the front panel
controls of the PSS-680 to change any settings as desired.
If you have a touch sensitive standard keyboard and want
to play the PortaSound with velocity data for more ex-
pression, select MIDI MODE 99 instead. Note, however,
that you will not be able to use the front panel controls
in this mode.
2 PortaSound – Portable Remote Keyboard
This simple connection allows you to play the PortaSound
from a remote keyboard.
Set MIDI MODE to 99, especially when using a shoulder
keyboard such as the SHS-10 or SHS-200. You can now
play the superior sounds of the PSS-680 from the remote
keyboard.
