    Figure 1. Drawbar connection Power up your locomotive with your transformer. Your locomotive is designed to operate on 7-18 volts alternating current. Virtually all Lionel and Lionel-compatible alternating-current transformers are suitable. Note! Do not power your locomotive with direct current (DC) transformers.

    Running your train Coupling hen coupling your cars, lift the coupler arms on both couplers at the same time and move the cars together so that the hooks capture the latches. Note! Keep in mind that it’s easier to couple cars on a straight stretch of track. Figure 2.

    Running your train Operating your locomotive's E-unit our locomotive is equipped with a mechanical E-unit. The E-unit allows the locomotive to cycle through its operational states (forward, neutral, reverse, neutral, and so on) with interruptions in track power or locks the locomotive into a single operational state. The E-unit can be disconnected by sliding the E-unit lever to its OFF position.

    TrainSounds sound system operation Operating the TrainSounds sound system our TrainSounds tender is designed to operate at approximately 6 to 18 volts (AC). When you power up the locomotive on the track, you will hear the sounds of the idling steam locomotive.

    Maintaining and servicing your set Adjusting the volume se the volume control knob on the underside of the tender to adjust the volume or to turn off the TrainSounds sound system. Refer to Figure 4 for the location of the volume control knob.

    We recommend that you purchase a Lionel Lubrication and Maintenance Kit (6-62927), available from your Lionel dealer. Two basic rules to keep in mind: never over-lubricate (a small amount will do) and avoid getting grease or oil on the locomotive’s wheels, contact rollers, or your track.

    Unlatch the boiler face, and swing it downward. Locate and remove the expired lamp shown in Figure 6. Replace the lamp with Lionel part no. 600-0363-300, available from your authorized Lionel Service Center. (See the Lionel Service section on page 12 for more information.) Raise and latch the boilerface back into place.

    Press the two tabs on the roof of the car and carefully lift off the roof. See Figure 7. Replace with part no. 600-0363-300 available from your authorized Lionel Service Center. (See the Lionel Service section on page 12 for more information.) Carefully replace the roof.

    Lionel L.L.C. or an authorized Lionel L.L.C. Service Center, together with proof of original purchase will, at the option of Lionel L.L.C., be repaired or replaced, without charge for parts or labor. In the event the defective product cannot be repaired, and a replacement is not available, a refund of the original purchase price will be granted.
