INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLING YOUR POWER ADAPTOR
The power adaptor should be installed as close as possible
to the GFCI outlet from which it is to be powered. The power
adaptor must be mounted on a vertical surface a minimum of
12" (30.5 cm) above the ground. There are four mounting holes
on the body of the power adaptor which may be used to secure
the adaptor using common household fasteners (not provided).
Orient the power adaptor in such a way that the low voltage
(12V) output connection is facing downward.
WHERE TO PLACE THE SKIMAWAY FILTER
• Choose a location in your pond where the filter is easily
accessible for maintenance.
• Install the filter so that it rests on a level flat surface within
the pond. A patio block placed at the bottom of the pond will
provide an adequate flat surface. Care should be taken so that
the liner is not damaged when installing the patio or other
flat stone in the pond. Do not use lime-based stones such as
concrete slabs as this may affect the balance of your pond
water and cause green water.
• Once a location is chosen, fill the bottom of the SkimAway
Filter with lime-free gravel. This will weigh the unit down and
ensure it stays in place.
• Ensure the SkimAway filter is level. The filter's four legs can
be adjusted until the unit is level. This will maximize the
performance of the unit, and allow the water to cascade down
all four sides evenly.
LEVELING THE SKIMAWAY FILTER
The SkimAway Filter must be level in order to function properly.
The filter was designed with 4 adjustable feet to help facilitate
this process. Always position the filter on a flat surface. Remove
the top portion of the filter. Place a level across the top as a
guide. Twist the top handles of the 4 feet until the unit is level.
(Fig 1 & 2).
WEIGHING DOWN THE
SKIMAWAY FILTER
The unit must be weighed down to be securely anchored. Place
lime-free gravel/rocks in the
back compartment as shown.
(Fig 3). Ensure the unit is level.
INSTALLING THE
FLOW GATE
Remove the filler cap on the
Flow Gate and fill with water or
sand. This will weigh it down
and ensure that it sits properly
in the unit. Place the Flow Gate
in the unit. The fish guard feature on the Flow Gate should be just
above the water level.
1
The fish guard helps prevent pond fish from being sucked into
the unit. You can adjust the buoyancy of the door by adjusting the
amount of water or sand inside. (Fig 4 & 5).
INSTALLING THE MEDIA
The SkimAway Filter comes with four (4) media pads –
2 coarse and 2 fine. To optimize their effectiveness, place the two
coarse pads closest to the water inlet and the fine pads behind
the coarse pads. Biological media, such as Laguna Phos-X (not
included), can be placed in the area behind the mechanical pads.
(Fig 6 & 7).
PUMP ACCESS
LOCATION
The SkimAway filter includes
a 200 U.S. GPH (757 LPH)
low voltage pump. The pump
is housed in the back of the
SkimAway filter. (Fig 8).
AQUATIC PLANTING
BASKET
The SkimAway filter includes a transparent aquatic planting
basket which allows for the addition of an aquatic plant. The
basket fits perfectly on the top of the filter. Specially designed
inlet holes have been manufactured into the bottom of the plant
basket to ensure that the plant never dries out. The unit can also
run without the basket for a different finished look.
