ADJUSTING THE FRONT DISC BRAKE
1. Check:
• Brake lever free play "a"
Out of specification → Bleed the front
brake system.
Refer to "BLEEDING THE HYDRAULIC
BRAKE SYSTEM" on page 3-20.

WARNING
A soft or spongy feeling in the brake lever
can indicate the presence of air in the brake
system. Before the vehicle is operated, the
air must be removed by bleeding the brake
system. Air in the brake system will consid-
erably reduce braking performance.
2. Adjust:
(For 4D3H, 4D3M)
• Brake lever position "a"

a. While pushing the brake lever forward,
loosen the locknut "1".
b. While pushing the brake lever forward, turn
the adjusting bolt "2" in direction "b" or "c"
until the specified brake lever free play is
obtained.
Direction "b"
Brake lever free play is increased.
Direction "c"
Brake lever free play is decreased.
c. Tighten the locknut.

After adjusting the brake lever position,
make sure there is no brake drag.

1. Check:
• Brake pedal height "a"
Out of specification → Adjust.

40.0 mm (1.57 in)
2. Adjust:
• Brake pedal height

a. Loosen the locknut "1".
b. Turn the adjusting bolt "2" until the brake
pedal height is within the specified limits.
c. Tighten the locknut.
TIP
When adjusting the brake pedal height make
sure the locknut-to-adjusting bolt clearance "a"
does not exceed 2.2–3.2 mm (0.09–0.13 in).
