In
this
step,
a
negative
corona
is
applied
to
the
back
of
the
copy
paper,
attracting
the
toner
from the surface
of
the
drum
to
the
copy
paper.
The
copy paper
is
separated from
the
drum
by
utilizing
its
stiffness.
Thin
paper,
however;
is
not
stiff,
and
may
wrap
around
the
drum
instead
of
separating
from
it.
To
prevent
this,
a
positive
voltage
is
applied
to
the separation
static
charge
eliminator,
weakening
the
attraction
between
the
drum
and
the
copy
paper.
This
enables
the
paper
to
separate
easily
from
the
drum.
