Image Quality

The D5 supports the following image quality options. See
page 473 for information on the number of pictures that can be
stored at different image quality and size settings.

RAW data from the image sensor are saved
without additional processing. Settings such as
NEF
white balance and contrast can be adjusted
after shooting.
Two images are recorded, one NEF (RAW)
image and one fine-quality JPEG image.

JPEG image and one normal-quality JPEG image.
Two images are recorded, one NEF (RAW)
image and one basic-quality JPEG image.
Record JPEG images at a compression ratio of
roughly 1:4 (fine quality).

roughly 1:8 (normal quality).
Record JPEG images at a compression ratio of
roughly 1:16 (basic quality).
Record uncompressed TIFF-RGB images at a bit
TIFF depth of 8 bits per channel (24-bit color). TIFF
(RGB) is supported by a wide variety of imaging
applications.
