3.2 What is blood pressure?

Blood pressure is the pressure created in the blood
vessels by each heart beat. When the heart contracts
(= systolic) and pumps blood into the arteries, it brings
about a rise in pressure. The highest value is known
as the systolic pressure and is the first value to be
measured. When the cardiac muscle relaxes to take in
fresh blood, the pressure in the arteries also falls. Once
the arteries are relaxed, a second reading is taken – the
diastolic pressure.
3.3 How do you measure with
CardioDock?
The CardioDock blood pressure module, combined
with the VitaDock app, turns your iPod or iPhone into
an effective blood pressure device for use on the upper
arm. The pressure is read by a pressure sensor that uses
a microprocessor to evaluate the vibrations created
when the pressure cuff is pumped up and released over
an artery.
