Combined battery charger / battery splitter BCS1225, BCS1245, BCS2425, BCS2445

Introduction

The charger of the combined battery charger / battery splitter is
suitable for charging all sorts of lead-acid batteries (both open
and closed liquid-filled batteries, gel-filled batteries, semi-trac-
tion batteries and AGM batteries).
See the technical details for the maximum charge current.
Because the charge current is controlled fully automatically
according to the best possible charging pattern the charger can
remain connected at all times, also while laid up in the winter.
The charger has 3 outputs so that 3 batteries can be charged at
the same time. The charger is suitable for use with mains volt-
age of either 115 or 230 Volt AC.
The battery splitter (splitting diode) of the charger splits the
charge current automatically while the users of the batteries still
remain separated.
See the technical details for the maximum charge current from
the alternator.
The voltage drop across Vetus splitting diodes is considerably
less than the usual voltage drop for splitting diodes because a
different technology is used. As a comparison, a splitting diode
normally causes a voltage drop of 0.7 Volt. This means that the
charge voltage for the batteries is 0.7 V less than the output
voltage from the alternator and the batteries will never be 100%
charged at this lower charge voltage.
A battery that is always less than 100% fully charged has a very
short lifetime! It is necessary to compensate the voltage from
the alternator in order to still be able to charge the batteries
100%. The required compensation to the charge voltage is not
easily made for some alternators.
It is NOT necessary to compensate the alternator for voltage
drops caused by the battery splitter when using the Vetus
charger.

Aim of this manual
This manual provides important information for the safe and
correct use of the charger. Take note of the instructions there-
fore in order to prevent danger to the user!
Read the user instructions carefully and take account of all the
information given in order to increase the reliability and extend
the lifetime of the charger.
Make sure that everybody who is to work with the charger reads
these instructions.
All chapters of this manual must be read carefully before the
charger is switched on for the first time.
