MAINTENANCE INFORMATION

THE ALLEGIANT SYSTEM HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO
PERFORM FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME WITH
LITTLE OR NO MAINTENANCE. OCCASIONALLY THE
NEED WILL ARISE TO CLEAN THE KEYBOARD OR
REPLACE THE CPU's BATTERIES. FOLLOW THE
INSTRUCTIONS BELOW IF ANY OF THESE ITEMS ARE
REQUIRED.

17.1 Cleaning The Keyboard

The keyboard may be cleaned whenever deemed necessary simply
by temporarily removing it from the system and wiping it with a
damp cloth. If a conventional spray type cleaner is required, spray
the cloth first, then wipe off the surfaces. Do not use petroleum
based cleaners or cleaners containing benzene, triclorethylene,
ammonia or acetone, as these cleaners could damage the plastic
surfaces.
17.2

Replacement of Memory Backup Batteries

The circuit board's lithium batteries require attention only when
it is necessary to change them. The batteries enable the RAM
memory to retain their contents for up to a year without the unit
being powered. Since they are not used while the AC power is on,
several years of service should be expected before it becomes
necessary to change them.
When the batteries have reached the end of their useful life, the
Time and Date portion of on-screen monitor displays will
alternate with a display of "?? ?? ??". This display is used to inform
the user that the CPU batteries need to be replaced. The front
panel of the unit will also provide a LED indication of a low
battery condition.
The memory backup batteries are located on the CPU module.
Refer to the Installation Procedure section for information on
removing the unit cover and gaining access to the CPU module.
The two batteries are mounted on the left edge of the circuit
board and are about the size of quarters. Insert a small flat blade
screwdriver into the slot on one of the battery holder sockets and
gently pry the battery from the holder until it can be removed by
your fingers. Replace old battery with new battery by lifting the
retaining clip up while inserting the battery into the socket.
Insure that the negative side of the battery contacts the socket by
seating the battery until it is somewhat flush with the level of the
battery holder. Repeat procedure for other battery.
Re-programming of the system's time and date and sequences
must now be re-entered. Other system programmed data like
camera titles, alarm configurations, user lockout data etc., are
stored in non-volatile memory and should be unaffected. Refer to
the appropriate section of the instruction manual if required.
