    Preparations Preparing the Power Supply You can power the camcorder using a battery pack or directly using the compact power adapter. If you connect the compact power adapter to the camcorder while a battery pack is attached, the camcorder will draw power from the power outlet.

When the camcorder’s clock is not set, the [Date/Time] screen will appear automatically with the day selected.     Using the Menus Using the Menus mode, many of the camcorder’s functions can be adjusted from the menu for general settings, which opens after pressing the MENU button. In mode, press the MENU button to open the menu for general settings or SET to open the clip menu for clip operations.

    Preparing the Camcorder Using the Wireless Controller to Operate the Camcorder When using the wireless controller, point it at the camcorder’s remote sensor. When the wireless controller's buttons are operated, the camcorder's tally lamps will illuminate. NOTES • When you use the START/STOP button or ZOOM buttons on the wireless controller, you must press the record enable button simultaneously with the desired button.

Record for approximately 6 minutes at 50 Mbps (0 45). Should the camcorder fail to operate correctly, refer to Troubleshooting (0 159).     Gain Gain The gain control adjusts the level of the video signal generated depending on the lighting and shooting conditions. You can select automatic or manual gain control. Operating modes: Automatic Gain Control (AGC) The camcorder automatically adjusts the gain based on the subject’s brightness.     Gain Manual Gain Control You can manually adjust the gain of the 3 preset gain levels (L: low, M: middle, H: high). Each level can be set independently.     Adjusting the Aperture Adjusting the Aperture You can affect the brightness of your recordings or change the depth of field by adjusting the aperture. Increase the aperture value (F8) so that objects that are close and far away will be in focus. You can have the camcorder adjust the aperture automatically or you can manually adjust it to give you more control over your recording.

    White Balance White Balance The camcorder uses an electronic white balance process to calibrate the picture for accurate color display under different lighting conditions. There are 4 methods of setting the white balance. Auto white balance: The camcorder automatically adjusts the white balance to the optimal level. Preset white balance: Set the white balance to either [Daylight] (5,400 K) or [Tungsten] (3,200 K).

    Recording Audio Recording Audio The camcorder features two-channel linear PCM audio recording and playback with a sampling frequency of 48 kHz. You can record audio using the built-in microphone, optional external microphone (XLR or MIC terminal) or line input (XLR terminal). You can select the audio input independently for channel 1 and channel 2. When using external microphone, use commercially available microphone with a cable no longer than 3 m.

    Troubleshooting Troubleshooting If you have a problem with your camcorder, refer to this section. Consult your dealer or a Canon Service Center if the problem persists. Power source The camcorder will not turn on or it turns off by itself.

The tally lamps flash slowly (1 flash per second). - The combined available space on both CF cards is low. Replace the CF card that is not being recorded onto.

    CF A/CF B Management data is not supported and will be deleted - This message may appear if you insert into the camcorder a CF card that was initialized by another Canon professional camcorder. Check the content of the CF card.

CF cards or clips with corrupt file control information cannot be read by the supplied Canon XF Utility or plugins. - When recording a single clip for an extended period of time, the clip will be split into smaller video files every 2 GB.
