    Set up your Surface Pro Grab your Surface and let’s go! Before you start… Make sure a wireless network is available and you have the network password (if the network is secured). Plug in and turn on 1. If you have a Typing Cover, bring it close to your Surface, so that it clicks into place (see picture).

    Support. Lock screen and signing in With a Microsoft account, personal settings like your lock screen and Start screen can follow you to other devices. Your favorite websites, browser history, and pinned sites can move with you, as well. If you don’t use Surface for a few minutes, the screen turns off and locks. When this happens, press a key (or press and release the Power button), then swipe up on the touchscreen.

    > Shut down. Surface Pro 2: You can also press and hold the Power button for 2 seconds, then swipe down on the screen. Sleep Close the Cover, press and release the Power button, or don’t use Surface for a few minutes.

    Change when the screen dims, turns off, or sleeps If you don’t use Surface Pro for a while, the screen may dim or turn off, or Surface may go to sleep. This happens to help preserve battery life. Here’s where you can change these settings: 1.

    The Kickstand Surface Pro 2 has two built-in kickstand positions (24° and 40°), so you can easily see the screen when you’re working at a desk or typing on your lap. You can flip out the kickstand from either side.
