TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL Therefore, there are a few buttons and some LEDs on the front panel of the TWOx12 that are not used. The four buttons to the right side of the numeric keypad and the 3 buttons to its left fall in this category. The lowest LED to the left of the numeric keypad is used.
Page 42
The right meter displays either the Studio Out levels (Left and Right) from the TWOx12 to your console or the Hybrid Receive levels (Line 1 and Line 2) from the telephone network. Pressing the small button on the meter selects between Studio Out and Hybrid Receive.
TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL The levels displayed are in decibels relative to the full-scale limit of the Telos TWOx12 (dBfs). Thus, 0dBfs represents the maximum level that can be passed through the system, above which clipping will occur. Clipping must be avoided as it will cause reduced hybrid performance.

You may select a highlighted item for modification by pressing the Select button. Once an item is selected, you can use the 6 & 5 arrow buttons to can change the value of the setting.
Page 47
TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL meter, you should insert a pad in the feed to the hybrid to prevent clipping. Clipped send audio will cause leakage. 10dB is a typical value. Send Level This setting adjusts the level of the hybrid into the Telco line and is calibrated with 0dB representing the maximum allowable send level into the line (USA).
Page 48
Nominal levels of the telephone network vary as much as 30dB from call to call. The Telos TWOx12 uses a dB-linear approach to AGC with a feed-forward topology. This provides a consistent sound regardless of the drive level. The smart compressor approach used normalizes levels while retaining the natural dynamics of the caller’s voice.
Page 49
TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL An important feature of the TWOx12’s AGC is the fact that it is cross coupled to other sections of the hybrid so that it can reliably distinguish between the real caller audio and residual hybrid leakage. This allows for considerable amounts of gain on low level callers while preserving excellent hybrid performance.
Page 50
(mixing desk). The most popular settings for this selection are Separate (where the TWOx12’s dual hybrids are completely independent) and Mix Wide (see page 105). Note that the Feed Thru audio path, shown on the following diagrams, is controlled independently of the routing option chosen.
Page 51
TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL • Separate Routing This option provides two fully independent hybrids, with the Left Studio Audio “connected” to Hybrid 1 and the Right Studio Audio to Hybrid 2. In this mode, the two callers cannot hear each other, except through your external mix-minus configuration.
Page 52
TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL • Mix Panned This option causes the to Studio Input channels to be mixed equally and the resulting monaural send mix sent to each caller. The caller audio, however, is not mixed equally to the studio outputs. Studio Out 1 has a higher level of line 1 caller audio than line 2 caller audio;...

Section 7.5.1 for a list of commands available). Simply use your favorite Telnet client to connect to the IP address of the TWOx12 you wish to control. When starting a Telnet session, a Login name is asked. The default one is: ”telos”. To change it, use the command SetTelnetPass described above.
A high pass filter with a 250 Hz crossover frequency improves hybrid performance and enhances intelligibility by removing unnecessary low-frequency information from the audio present at the TWOx12’s input. This function is not defeatable. Frequency Shifter The frequency shifter (pitch shifter) inserts a small, unnoticeable, shift in frequency to the send audio to prevent feedback buildup when the system is used with open speakers.
An important additional feature of this AGC is that it is cross-coupled to other sections of the TWOx12 and can therefore reliably distinguish between caller audio and hybrid leakage. This allows a more aggressive gain control for bringing up low- level callers while still preserving excellent hybrid performance.
TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL domain. The Receive EQ selection controls the type of equalization applied to the receive telephone audio as follows: The caller audio is passed without modification. The Rcv EQ values (see below) are ignored in this mode.
10-12. 7.6.4 Feedback Control We’ve carefully designed the TWOx12 so that problems with feedback should be rare. However, despite excellent trans-hybrid loss and a number of other features, you can probably induce feedback if you try sufficiently hard (try cranking up your studio monitors).
It is stored in a partition of the non-volatile memory on the motherboard. While there were a few changes to the firmware early on in the life of the TWOx12, the firmware is now stable and further changes are unlikely.
The TWOx12 must be programmed with the following information (see Section 7.3.3 for details): IP Addr This is the IP address for this TWOx12. As with any computer on an IP network the TWOx12 must have an IP address before it can be used over the network. Subnet This is your subnet mask.
6) You may need to reprogram some of your settings, check them after installing the new software. Please return the old SIMM module to Telos, via regular US Mail. Your prompt return of this module will allow us to continue to offer you upgrades in the future, at the lowest possible cost.

"Everything You Know is Wrong". Use that as your guiding philosophy in troubleshooting a Telos Two set-up. For example, just because you checked the Telco line last night and it was fine does not mean that it's OK now.
Green LED next to each U interface jack. Available line status messages are: No line connected, or connected to wrong jack on the TWOx12. OR, Deactivated ETS 300 permits the Telco to put a line to sleep. Deactivated will be displayed when this occurs.
First try disconnecting the ISDN circuit(s) in question and waiting a full 60 seconds (leave the TWOx12 on) and then reconnect the circuit(s). What kind of ISDN do you have, and is the TWOx12 set to match it? The telephone company should have given you the ISDN protocol when the line was ordered.
Page 76
This screen shows the status of the ISDN connection. You can determine if the line is connected and whether the line and the Telos TWOx12 are successfully configured. In addition, information about calls is displayed here. One of the following status words will be shown for each active ISDN channel: No line connected, or connected to wrong jack on the TWOx12.
Page 77
If the problem remains with the line, then call your Telco. On the other hand, if a line that works in one interface fails to work in another interface of the same TWOx12 then you have an problem with your ISDN interface card (or possibly elsewhere in the TWOx12).
Page 78
TWOx12’s integrated ISDN analyzer. This enables you to look at the transactions between the Telco line and the TWOx12, so that a judgment can be made as to whether the problem lies within the TWOx12 or with the programming of the Telco switch.
It is hard to deny evidence provided by their own gear. In rare cases, there could be a software bug in the TWOx12 that reacts badly to something coming from the ISDN line. Telos customer support will communicate the problem to our engineering guys for resolution.

11.2 Appendix 2 – Cable Guide This appendix is intended to be a reference tool that covers various modular telephone-style connectors used in Telos products. IMPORTANT! Be very careful to label wiring used with RJ- style connectors. In some cases they have power on them, and there is a risk of applying this power to something which does not expect it.

USA, however the majority of these principles will apply anywhere. The TWOx12 is really a sophisticated “baby” telephone system. As such it is similar an Electronic Key Telephone system designed for general business purposes. We will use the generic term “Key System” in the following discussion.
Page 103
TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL well as a transmitter, but was entirely inappropriate as a receiver. When coupled with one of the Bell transducers this transmitter worked better (higher levels and less distortion) than using two of the Bell devices. The infant telephone industry grew rapidly. While the Bell Company had a head start, the giant Western Union rapidly caught up.
Page 104
TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL became rapidly clear that the utility of the telephone was directly proportional to the number of people to whom one could talk. For instance, to use our example above: If the businessman were to call and inform his wife that he would be bringing home an Associate for dinner, the wife could then phone the store and get more provisions.

TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL An introduction to Private Telephone Systems Many readers will recall seeing old motion pictures where multiple phones are shown on a worker’s desk at a business establishment. Film writers often took advantage of the absurdity of talking on more than one phone at a time, or trying to determine which of several phones was ringing, for comic effect.
Page 107
TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL 4) There is no way to directly “call” from one phone in the system to another. Any number of users may select an “intercom line” (a common circuit with just talk-battery on it) and talk, however this does not go through the KSU or really constitute a “call”...
