Seat belt pretensioners If the pretensioner has activated, the SRS warning light will come on. In that case, the seat belt cannot be used again and must be replaced at your Toyota dealer. ■ Adjustable shoulder anchor Always make sure the shoulder belt is positioned across the center of your shoulder.

An infant or child who is too small to use a seat belt should be properly secured using a child restraint sys- tem. Toyota strongly recommends that all infants and children be placed in the rear seats of the vehicle and properly restrained. The rear seats are safer for infants and children than the front passenger seat.

1-2. Hybrid system Hybrid system features Your vehicle is a hybrid vehicle. It has characteristics different from conventional vehicles. Be sure you are closely familiar with the characteristics of your vehicle, and operate with care. The hybrid system combines the use of a gasoline engine and an electric motor (traction motor) according to driving condi- tions, improving fuel efficiency and reducing exhaust emis- sions.

At slow speeds or when traveling down a gentle slope, the engine is stopped and the electric motor (traction motor) is used.

7-1. Essential information Emergency flashers The emergency flashers are used to warn other drivers when the vehicle has to be stopped in the road due to a breakdown, etc. Press the switch. All the turn signal lights will flash. To turn them off, press the switch once again.

Essential information If your vehicle has to be stopped in an emergency Only in an emergency, such as if it becomes impossible to stop the vehicle in the normal way, stop the vehicle using the follow- ing procedure: Steadily step on the brake pedal with both feet and firmly depress it. Do not pump the brake pedal repeatedly as this will increase the effort required to slow the vehicle.
If your vehicle needs to be towed If towing is necessary, we recommend having your vehicle towed by your Toyota dealer or commercial towing service, using a lift-type truck or flat bed truck. Use a safety chain system for all towing, and abide by all state/ provincial and local laws.

The following procedures may be used to start the hybrid sys- tem if the 12-volt battery is discharged. You can also call your Toyota dealer or a qualified repair shop. If you have a set of jumper (or booster) cables and a second vehicle with a 12-volt battery, you can jump start your vehicle by following the steps below.
